Chapter 26 - Set your heart ablaze

A baffled expression crept onto Kyojuro's face as he found himself in Y/N's arms, the adeptus gently setting him down near Tanjiro.

„Let me take over."

Her voice was gentle, her tone soft, like the brush of a butterfly wing, against Kyojuro's ear. His eyes were wide as he stared at the woman, the green glow of her body making him stare at her.

„How.. what.."

He held his stomach in pain. His ribs were broken, his eye bleeding.

„Inosuke. Please, try to stabilise Kyojuro."

She then turned to Akaza, who was staring at her with a grim expression.

„You.. let me kill him. I don't want to hurt you."

A sigh left Y/N's lips.

„That's too bad. Because I will hurt you."

She reached out towards her belt, taking the mask and placing it on her face. The green glow emitting from her body intensified, making her seem unreal, almost like a demon herself. Her enemies eyes widened.

„Oh? Are you a demon already? If not, how would you be able to have such magnificent abilities? You took him out of my arms in a split second.. humans could never be this fast. I saw it. You teleported."

Kyojuro's heart was thumping wildly in his chest. As much as he hated to admit it, the demon was right. No human could ever posses such extraordinary skills. His red eyes were glued on Y/N's form, goosebumps creeping up his skin at the aura she gave off. It was frightening, malicious, almost. As if she was a demon herself, no. Something else. It was similar to a demon's aura, but it lacked something. Something that Kyojuro couldn't quite grasp. Akaza sneered.

„Oh come on.. won't you talk to me?"

Y/N frowned under her mask.

„I don't talk to scum like you, demon. It doesn't matter what I am. All that matters is that I will be the one to kill you."

With those words, she dashed at Akaza, her spear colliding with his fists. Swift blows were exclaimed, Y/N's moves were quick and fluid, not even one unneeded movement. Akaza chuckled.

„We don't have to fight, you know? As I said, I hate hurting women. Especially strong ones like you. But since you seem to want to fight so badly.. I'll indulge you. But I won't kill you."

He laughed, his eyes showing a malicious gleam. Fighting her felt even better than fighting Kyojuro. Something about her.. that raw, unsaturated power.. it fuelled the fire in Akaza until it turned into a full blown inferno. The ground cracked under the force of their fight, only green and blue flashes visible in the air. Kyojuro watched with wide eyes, well, one wide eye, blood flowing down the side of his face.

„Y/N.. SET YOUR HEART ABLAZE!"

„M/N! BEAT HIS ASS! YOURE MUCH STRONGER THAN THAT SHITTY DEMON! SHOW HIM WHAT A LACKEY OF THE GREAT INOSUKE CAN DO!"

But their words didn't reach Y/N's ears. All she could hear was the clashing of her weapon, the small, eerie giggles coming from Akaza and the demons velvety voice.

„Y/N.. you're even stronger than Kyojuro.. say.. yes. You could become a demon as well! And we.."

Akaza chuckled as he parried one of her strikes.

„We could become even stronger! Together! We could learn so much from each other."

His voice was almost passionate. This fiery feeling within him.. he could get addicted to it. Akaza now understood why Muzan wanted this woman. She was so strong.. fighting her was like a drug to his system.
