life had been okay for Evie since her games.

other than the nightmares, of course.

but both Finnick and Johanna tell her those are normal.

she's not been back to the Capitol yet, but it was time to start her victory tour.

she'd start in district 12, and make her way through every district - accept her own - until she made it to the Capitol, where there would be a party in her honour.

and she owed the President a dance.

Johanna was less than pleased when she heard that - not that she'd tell Evie why.

Evie knew that Johanna hated the Capitol, but she'd assumed that was because of the games.

Evie hated them for it too.

she just knew she needed them to love her.

she didn't know the true extent of Johanna's hatred.

she kept that from her.

she was just a child, she didn't need to know that.

didn't need to know what Snow does.

what he makes them do.

it was time for her Victory Tour now, and it felt wrong.

to go from district to district, talk about the fallen children.

as if they were necessary sacrifices.

how could they ever be necessary sacrifices?

how was Forest a necessary sacrifice?

district twelve was first, Ash & Troy had been their tributes, they were killed by careers.

Flavius was far too lazy to write her out a different speech for every district, so he told her to just wing it, but not say anything against the Capitol.

she only nodded obediently at that.

she walked out onto the stage, the microphone a lot taller than she was - it wasn't made for 12 year olds, that's why.

she took the microphone off the stand and started to speak.

"i didn't really know Ash and Troy.. i didn't have the fortune to speak much to them before their sacrifice to the greater of Panem." she spoke out to the crowd, her words were lies, she knew it.

people stood, staring angry at her, including the parents of the fallen tributes.

her words were lies.

"i've seen the replay though.. and they put up a fight against all 4 careers before their demise. and you should be proud of their efforts." she sighed softly before she continued. "i've been given the title of the Capitol's daughter.. but i like to think of myself as Panem's, for i love all of you as much as i love my own home. thank you."

----------

she couldn't have gotten off the stage quicker, running to the nearest bathroom and throwing up as Atala came in to hold back her hair.

"it's okay, sweetheart, let it out." she'd mumble. "it's okay."

"i'm a liar now, Atala.." she muttered as she used some tissue to wipe her mouth. "i just lied."

"you lied.. for the better of Panem and the districts, remember that."

----------

going to district 11 scared her.

she killed both of their tributes.

the station in 12 was rather far from the one in 11, and it would be a long journey before they arrived in the district of agriculture.

she curled up on the sofa, her head in Atala's lap as she laid in silence.

not asleep, but her brain not quite awake.

she couldn't even speak freely on this train.

she was being listened to.

she knew it so.

"your speech was fantastic, darling!" Flavius clapped to her, something he seemed to do a lot.

she nodded against Atala and mumbled back. "i said what the Capitol would've wanted me to say."

"and you did a mighty good job at it!"

"thanks." she muttered, clearly unenthusiastic. "thank you for your words."

authors note
again, a short chapter
most of the victory tour probably will be

because i'm splitting each district's little tour bit into a different chapter there's only so much you can put in one chapter

but it'll pick up eventually, i promise :(
