Chapter 1 Introduction

    Murand is a small island protected by ancient magic that is stored within the blood of the royal family. The King of Alphas currently held that power, as did his father before him and so on. Under his rule there are five other Alphas, slightly less powerful than the king but each a force to be reckoned with. Murand has run peacefully for centuries, more than seven hundred years ago there was a war between supernaturals splitting the world, all the werewolves left to the island of Murand to live out their lives.
    Now every pack has a purpose to help the island run and the goddess of the moon has blessed the island with magic. The Blood Rose pack contains royal blood and is The Kings court, it is at the heart of the island, surrounded by fields of wildflowers and rose bushes. To the west is the Moon Stone pack, filled with farms and fields, they help supply wheat and fresh vegetables to the rest of Murand. Directly south of the Blood Rose pack is Bane Heart pack. The alpha ruthless and unkind, their relationship with the rest of the kingdom was strained, due to his instability, they provided ores and coal from the mines, along with weapons they forged.
    North of the kingdom is the Blue Moon pack, filled with priests and priestess who have devoted their life and body to the moon goddess, who helps keep the ground fruitful, they also have the largest library in Murand full of information. Their lands reach the edge of the forest where it meets the river in the north it then turns into the River ash pack, a rough bunch who provide the kingdom with ships, lumber and meat and fish. And in the northernmost part of the island lies a mountain range constantly covered in snow.
    The Silver Snow pack house is located in the valley between two large mountain ranges, in a constant state of winter, they provide hand woven goods and art to the rest of the land. Clothes and paintings, beautifully intricate symphonies. The icy pack produced the most artistic shifters. With every pack providing each other with goods to survive it became very self sufficient, needing no help from outside supernatural help.
    Traditions are important on Murand, every solstice people gather to gift the moon goddess with different items hoping to get her blessing, and every three years the fated ball is held.
    The fated ball is held in the palace. All shifters of age are invited to find their mates some attend for years and don't meet their mate until their tenth time attending and some meet their mates on the first attendance. But every year after the ball is done, the moon goddess gifts the land with a full harvest that fall. It is one of the most important traditions upheld by the shifters of Murand and highly successful at connecting soulmates.
    And this year everyone is buzzing with excitement because for the first time since his coronation Silas the Alpha King will be attending and seen by everyone in the kingdom. The fated ball is the only tradition where everyone on Murand needs to gather together. And for the past three years Alpha Silas has skipped the ball. But now 23 and mateless it seems like the king is finally looking for his Luna.
