I'm sure Blake might start looking for me during this break, and any of our new friends would likely recognize me. Not that it's bad for them to be near when I'm texting him, but the messages can get pretty rude fast. I don't want Blake to try and intervene for me.

Sheesh, you really dislike the guy that's dating your sister, yet you still don't want him and her to fight because of you?

Blegh. What a weird situation to be in as a past people pleaser. At least it's not as difficult when dealing with a guy you dislike. Just awkward.

There was a pretty tree offering shade towards a corner of one of the several courtyards here; since nobody was occupying it, it seemed like a nice place to hide. Flipping out my scroll, I—begrudgingly—clicked on Adam's contact.

" Yo.
Plans will have to change. Blake and I have an important group project we're starting on immediately after school."

It doesn't take long for Adam to read and start typing a response. To say he's been busy lately doing such important meetings, he always reads Blake and I's messages almost immediately.

"And who are you to change plans? Especially those for the WF?"

"A student first; member second."

"You and Blake said school ends at 4. I'm picking you up and bringing you where I choose."

I'd love to respond back how that'd then be kidnapping, but I've learned that it's not always best to be smart, especially when making demands with Adam.

"Then I'll take a ride with the project group members, as I planned. At worst, I can RUber home."

Adam began typing back but then stopped. Assuming that Adam takes my word seriously for once, he knows I will act as such. He won't act so rough when Blake is near, so I could probably suggest a compromise, or make him offer one.

"I already told Blake I'd take you both home after. How do you think she'd feel if I made you take a RUber? Isn't it uncomfortable for you both?"

Guilt tripping and a jab.

"Then it looks like she'll be disappointed in me. Must be tough for the both of you. I'll be going to a diner first, then I can go wherever y'all will be, or home."

"Fine. How about this? I'll pick both of you up after the diner, then bring you both home. Your parents won't come home until 7:30, right? We'll just talk in Blake's room."

Wow, the audacity to basically take what I just said and make it his own idea. Whatever, it still means I'll get what I want. But on a side note, why the hell is he always shying away from our parents? That's how you know he's not good—especially when Kali of all people doesn't like him.

"Ok. Thanks!"

I snapped my phone off without seeing if he'd seen the message or responded.

There was still about ten minutes left of break. That was less complicated than I thought it'd be. Maybe the calm before the storm later? Who knows. I went off to find Blake and tell her about our new plans with Ruby, Yang, and Lyra. Can't wait for fighting class to begin soon though...
