A/N: Hello my lovelies! I'm glad you guys had a positive reaction to this story idea. Don't worry, I'm trying to keep this one a lot less dark than Over Your Head. I'm trying to keep it humorous for the most part. My inspiration for this story was basically just that I'm similar to Mitch in this story. Someone in the comments said so as well, so I completely understand. I worry and panic over the littlest things. I mean, I don't have a strict schedule, but I worry a lot. So, that's why I'm enjoying writing this character, because it's like second nature. This chapter is basically just a lot of panicked!Mitch, hence the title.
Chapter 2
Scott was in my Greek Lit and Singing classes. I expected more harassment but he acted as if I were invisible for the rest of the day. I thought I would love that, but I couldn't help but feel a little offended.
He said that I was cute and now he was ignoring my existence entirely. I shouldn't have been worrying. I heard all about his glorified hook-ups. He probably only said that so I would sink to his level and participate in sexual activities with him.
Revolting.
I tried not to let it bother me, since I didn't have time in my schedule to worry.
At least, not about some stupid boy, instead I needed to worry about telling my parents that I got detention. Dear Lord, they would be furious.
When I got home at exactly 3:16, I glanced at my mobile schedule and changed my allotted time for homework, since I didn't have much anyway.
"Mitch, welcome home. Do you have time in your schedule to talk to us?" Mom greeted me with a hug.
"Um, actually yes, I cleared up some space in my schedule because I have something...important to tell you guys," I stated sheepishly.
My dad looked up from his newspaper over on the couch. "What is it? Are you alright?" He inquired worriedly.
I let out a shaky breath, "You may want to sit down," I assured them, motioning towards the living room.
They exchanged worried looks before sitting on the couch and staring at me, worry clear on their faces.
I sat across from them and took a deep breath, feeling nauseous. I rubbed my hands together nervously, avoiding eye contact with them.
"I...got a detention," I stated slowly, fearing their anger. I peeked up to evaluate their reactions.
Their worried expressions faces and they gave me a sad look, "Mitch, honey, we're not mad. You're a teenager, you're allowed to make mistakes," my mom informed me.
I was completely taken aback, yet again today. I sat up straight and gave them a confused look, "What? I thought you'd be upset. I've never gotten a detention before," I reminded them.
Dad sighed, "We raised you to think everything you did had to be perfect, and that you weren't allowed to make a mistake. We made a mistake by doing that. No one's perfect. And it resulted in you being...not always the person we wanted to be around. You have a habit of reminding everyone how smart you are," he explained sheepishly.
So Scott wasn't just being mean? I really was unbearable to be around. I looked at them sadly.
"Don't be sad, please. Just please understand that you don't have to be perfect. You're a 17 year old boy, you should be anything but perfect," my mom assured me.
I shook my head, "No. I've been perfect for 17 years, I can't just let it all go to waste now. Punish me or something. I got in trouble," I demanded.
"Mitch, listen, you're a teenager. You're gonna mess up sometimes. It's not our place to ridicule you for being a human being. Hell, we've been waiting for this day for years," Mom explained.
