Epilogue
I removed my helmet, allowing my eyes to wander around the university campus where I had recently transferred. I had heard this place was quieter and more peaceful than my previous school. Rumors about me flirting with multiple guys at once were spreading, but I paid little attention to the gossip. I just detested being the center of attention and sought a new environment.
I tied my hair in a high ponytail before getting off my big bike. I walked towards the hallway and went to the dean's office to inquire about the location of my room and which block I was in.
After the last subject, I stayed in the room, letting my classmates go out first. It was supposed to be a quick stay, but I somehow felt sleepy, so I took a nap.
It was already dark when I woke up. Thanks to Hermes' call. If he had not called, I might have stayed the night at school.
"Hello?" I answered.
"How's your first day?" he asked.
I looked at the whiteboard before closing my eyes. "I'm not a grade-schooler for you to ask me how my day went."
He laughed.
"When are you free?" he asked as his laugh subsided.
"I'm busy, Hermes." I stood up and grabbed my bag from the chair. "I'll inform you when I'm up for a ride."
Riding a motorcycle was our hobby. We even joined big and small motorcycle racing competitions.
I won the championship in a superbike racing competition at Clark International Speedway a month ago.
My phone rang again as I exited the classroom after our final class. It was Benj, my boyfriend, who had been sending me numerous text messages expressing how much he missed and wanted to see me. I had been reading his messages without replying. It seemed like he was being overly sweet, just like my exes had been. Strangely, I was starting to feel weary of all the affection, and I could not figure out why.
The dimly lit hallway was almost empty, with only a few lingering students. As I made my way through, I noticed a solitary figure – a girl gazing up at the night sky, where only a handful of stars pierced the darkness.
She seemed lost in thought, whispering words I could not quite hear. Drawing closer, I paused a few meters away, unsure whether to approach. Then, she began to sing softly, her AirPods in her ears. I could not help but watch and listen as her melodic voice wavered, accompanied by tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Tangina naman," she suddenly cursed. She closed her eyes and started sobbing. "Bakit ko ba sinunod ang sinabi ni Yan?"
I was taken aback when I heard her swear. It seemed out of character for someone with such an angelic face.
She buried her face in her hands and continued to sob uncontrollably.
I should have left to give her the alone time she supposedly wanted, but my feet felt like they did not want to move.
I averted my eyes from her and looked ahead, wondering who had hurt her so deeply that she was crying like this.
She stopped crying and was shocked to see someone standing beside her. "Ay, black lady!"
As I glanced at her once more, I saw the surprise on her face.
Her long, flowing, natural brown hair beautifully complemented her sparkling brown eyes, which seemed to glisten because of the nearby light. Her delicate, thin eyebrows framed her eyes, adorned with thick, curled eyelashes. A charming, petite nose sat perfectly on her tiny face, and her naturally pinkish lips added to her overall allure.
