4: With The Way That We're Looking At Each Other

Start from the beginning

They were silently sipping coffee, hers black with a little sugar, Lisa's sweet concoction of coffee with condensed milk, when Honey called. And Lisa has been talking to the phone ever since.

"Just wait for me," Lisa said, her free hand grabbing the back of her neck. Like she was trying to ease the tension there. "We will talk... Of course, I know there's a problem, that's why we'll talk about it. I know... I understand how you feel, but please try to be calm. We can't really talk if you'll continue screaming and hysterical."

Even if Jennie wanted to scoff, she couldn't help but grin at what she dubbed as Lisa's "the accountant" tone. If she was Lisa's girlfriend and she said those words to her, she'd be screaming bloody murder until the Thai's ears bled. I'll show her what hysterical really looks like. Lisa was so objective that she seemed to actually forgotten she wasn't talking to her finance team but her girlfriend.

Maybe that was Lisa's secret, why she never really asks for any advice about her love life from anyone? That's possible.

"Okay, see you... Bye." Finally, Lisa ended the call. "Are you done with that?" She asked Jennie, gesturing to the vintage Dunkin' donuts mug in front of her. She nodded. Lisa finished her cold sweetened coffee, picked both cups and placed them at the sink.

"Lis, before you go to Honey... Can we, maybe talk?" She stood up and followed Lisa out of the kitchen.

The taller woman stopped walking and looked at her bleakly. "Not now, Jen. It's hard to talk to you. You're... confusing."

"What?" Lisa was the last person she'd expect who will think of her as such. "Me? I'm confusing?" She even pointed at herself.

"Yes. Just... Let's talk later." Lisa resumed walking towards her room. "I need to take a shower."

"How am I hard to talk to? I thought the two of us are the ones who get each other the most!" she followed Lisa up to the bedroom doorway.

"And that's what's confusing!" Lisa walked inside the bedroom and closed the door.

"Lis!" she ran after the Thai. "Are you mad at me?"

"I'm not!" Lisa replied from the room.

She knocked and tried the doorknob. "Let's talk first, come on Lisa."

"I said not now. Later, Jennie!"

"I-I'm sorry, okay?"

The door partly opened. Head peeking from the doorway, Lisa stared at her.

"Sorry..." She said again.

"You're sorry that you kissed me?"

You kissed me, too! Jennie wanted to tell her. Yet, she just nodded. "I know, I messed up. But I have my reasons..." Her eyes went to the mole below Lisa's neck. She wondered how it would feel to touch it, or better yet, kiss it. She blinked. "Ahm... I don't like her," she crammed to say. "She's planning to use you and her gold digger friends. Plus..."

"I don't think I want to hear the reasons, really." Lisa's expression was serious.

She was about to close the door again when Jennie stuck her hand between the door jamb and the door, to stop it from closing. "I want to get rid of her because... as your friend, I couldn't let her take advantage of you. You deserve someone better."

"Is that all?" Jennie couldn't explain Lisa's expression-like she was relieved but also disappointed? Was Lisa expecting another reason?

She nodded.

Lisa smiled timidly, open the door and slightly lift her shoulders and open her arms for a few moments like she was waiting... and Jennie realizing what it was jumped to hug Lisa.
