"Continue working as you were told to and if you bother me with something this stupid again, I will rip you to shreds and send what remains of you to your family in a bag from your local butcher." I sneer at the worker who's come to ask me some stupid question about the phases and if they should slow down production.
I begin to walk away when I sense that he's still standing there, "Fuck are you still gawking at me for? GO!" I growl and it startles him, he then runs off with his head down.
I continue walking and head toward the lounge that's only for us, the Essentials. I sit down on the soft sofa and resist the urge to lie back and relax because I know I have work to do. I sigh and begin reading over the most recent data from all the warehouses, looking out for any errors or possibly major setbacks. I've gotten about two down when everyone else comes in, a little bloody and clearly exhausted. And covered in soot.
"Woah," I snicker, "that rookie of theirs really did a number on you guys, didn't she?"
"I don't even wanna talk about it." Alex groans throwing himself onto one of the couches on his stomach.
"She ruined my beach waves, next time I see her, oh, she is so dead." A-ri huffs as she flops down onto one of the couches.
"Same goes for Hermes. I'm genuinely gonna rip his head off next time we fight." Kristian says as he sits down next to A-ri and puts his arm around her.
Charithra snaps her fingers at the guards situated by the doors and the one closest to her turns to her, "Get me a Vodka Red Bull, no Red Bull," She shoos him away with her hand and he hurries off. She picks up one of her arrows and creates a crystal so that she can sharpen the end, "The good news is that David is dead, don't think he was able to tell them anything crucial if anything at all. You know the Bureau, they're all goody two-shoed pussies. Probably just talked about his wife and his kids and blah, blah, blah." She rolls her eyes and continues to sharpen her arrows.
"They were sloppy," Alexander sneered, swirling a glass of something dark and expensive. "Letting us get away with killing David so easily."
Charithra laughed, twirling an arrow between her fingers, "Sloppy? Please. They barely put up a fight. I was bored halfway through."
Kristian paced, restless energy crackling around him like static. "Eh. I mean, we came home with a couple a' scratches. They scuffed us up a little."
A-ri lounged on a leather chair, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "What's the story with Genevieve? They wanna talk to her too, don't they?"
"Under lock and key. They want her, they're gona have to go find her." I reply.
My gaze drifts to Mea, who sat cross-legged next to me, shuffling her tarot deck with a forlorn look. She's my half sister, we share a mother. This isn't the route we thought our lives would take, but when she wanted to leave the Bureau, I knew that I'd follow because I'd rather die than leave her on her own. Why she left? Not my tale to tell. But I know that I left because I was being mistreated and underutilized. From the very beginning of my education at the Bureau Academy for the Magically Gifted, I was always treated like I was different or strange. I know my powers aren't what most are used to, but they're mine, and I deserved to have an understanding of them. I didn't get that because all my teachers had this, I guess, subliminal fear that I would kill them? Or something? It's stupid.
"You were there," I said quietly, voice low enough that only she could hear.
Mea's eyes flickered with a knowing light. "Of course. I wouldn't miss it."
"What's all this?" Mea asks me, gesturing to the pile of data reports on the table.
"Oh, they're the reports from the labs and warehouses and shit. Boring read, trust me. You don't wanna waste your time," I tell her.
