Rookwood didn't mention the runes or anything of that nature, but only Ominis. Perhaps he wasn't the one who was working on translating the runes. Or maybe he was, but he hadn't noticed she'd messed with them yet. Regardless, he knew somehow that she was a Metamorphmagus. Since the war broke out, she'd been in hiding. How did he know? Dinah wouldn't have told him. Right? And Aesop wouldn't have either...? ...Right?

The question was frustrating her beyond belief. How. Did. He. Know?

"What if Aesop is alive-or at least had been around that time. Dinah gave up the information about Ominis in order to make a trade for Aesop-but then Rookwood didn't hold up on his end of the deal."

Sebastian's eyebrows furrowed, "Natty was the best after Professor Sharp when it came to potions. Losing them both severely impacted our rations of healing potions and the like."

"Dinah knows how much you naturally distrust people and she knew that you'd blame her for Ominis being captured, so she reached out to me." Gracie bit her lip, "But you heard Rookwood speak about my abilities. In exchange for both Ominis and Aesop, she was willing to give me up to Rookwood. That night, she wanted me to rescue Ominis, maybe find Aesop, and then later that night Rookwood would've had his hands on me."

The wizard beside her was seething.

Gracie continued, "Having my ability would have been the perfect trade..."

"She's a traitor then. She wasn't crying because she was sad over Garreth's death, she was crying because she knew what I'd do to her when I found out the truth... That she also deserves a traitor's death." Sebastian finished with his lip curled up in disgust. "Time started the job, but I will be the one to finish it. I'm going to let Ominis know she's not to be trusted."

Gracie felt torn on the matter. It was an unfortunate situation.

"Sebastian... Listen to me."

He looked down at her, but she could tell that he was stewing in his anger. Like a disgusting poison, it infected the warmth in his eyes, turning it cold. His lips were in a fierce scowl and he was almost shaking due to the rage.

"What she did was for lack of better words... Utter shite." She sighed and took a deep breath to calm herself, "Using me to get Ominis and Aesop back instead of being honest with you, and maybe the lot of you would have been able to get him back in the first place... While her methods were treacherous, I don't think she deserves to die for what she did."

Sebastian's scowl worsened. "Gracie, she put you in danger. She put Ominis in danger."

"If she was in love with Aesop, then she was willing to sacrifice anything for him. If I was in danger-"

"If you were in danger, I'd rescue you without underhanded tricks or putting someone else's life at risk due to incompetency. If you were in danger, there's nothing in this fucking world that could keep me from you." Sebastian cut her off with a sharp edge to his tone, "Don't try to defend her."

"She's done a lot for the rebellion. She had a lapse in judgement."

He snorted inwardly, "She'll be able to reflect in Purgatory."
