Bad Date
It was knocking at the door that woke Amy up.
She grunted, slightly confused on why something was rested on her stomach, and immediately remembered everything that had happened that morning when she heard a grunt beside her. Rubbing at her sleepy eyes, she called out for the person at her door to wait as she pushed Seether's head from her stomach and slung her legs over the side of her bed. Her eyes glanced over herself in her mirror and she mummer to herself. Everything about her was a mess; her hair was frizzed and no one could even tell that it was braided anymore, she had yet to change clothes from the accident with Big Red and blood and dirt stained the tan tank top and her camo cargo pants, and dark bags had formed under her blue eyes from lack of sleep.
With a sigh, Amy shook her head and attempted to smooth down her hair as she opened her door to look presentable at least. Seether made a disgusted noise, like he couldn't believe that she was leaving him. Amy placed a finger to her lips as she gave him an apologetic smile. "Quiet," she whispered softly.
There were a few advantages to having an incredibly smart dinosaur. Seether could learn commands almost the second that she showed him and, to a certain extent, understood English. Amy assumed that it was like how dogs and their owners communicated; certain tones, hands gestures, and words were connected with either praise or punishment. Seether seemed to know almost everything. He knew that 'promise' meant that she was coming back to him to either play a game or give him a treat. He knew that 'later' meant that Amy didn't want to play and he would pout until he eventually won and Amy came up with a game. And he knew what 'food' was since his first feeding time. Amy had no clue if Seether was even smarter than the Raptors -Owen spoke highly of them and their ability to be trained- but she had an idea that now since he knew how to open doors, he was more than smart for a dinosaur.
"Yeah, yeah," Amy yawned as she opened the door to her apartment. "Where's the fire?"
She found Owen's frowning face standing before her and she felt her stomach dropped. He had never visited her at her apartment before unless she had invited him to a dinner -he must know about Seether then. He looked nice; instead of wearing his dark vest with a long-sleeved button up shirt and dark jeans, he was wearing a maroon v-neck shirt and board shorts. His hands were in his pockets and his face, which was normally light-hearted, was touched with a frown.
"Can I come in?"
Shit. Shit. Shit. He knows. There's no way that he doesn't know. Amy bit her lip and ran her hand through her hair, her hesitation causing Owen to lift an eyebrow. She waved her hand as she stepped to the side. "Of course. All of my friends are welcomed."
Owen immediately walked over to her island bar and sat down in one of the barstools. He propped his face up in his hands and gave Amy the most pitiful look that she had ever seen him give her. "Do you have anything that I can eat?" Amy closed the door slowly as he spoke, caught off guard. She had never known Owen to beat around the bush with anything and she couldn't help but to notice his distress.
"I made cookies the other-"
"Can I eat those?"
Shooting him a confused look, Amy crossed over to her fridge, half relieved that Owen wasn't asking her about Seether but also worried about how he was acting. As she searched through her fridge, she heard Owen heave a large sigh. "Hey, are you alright?"
"Yeah. Just a little... disappointed."
Amy was about to ask why when it suddenly hit her. Owen and Claire's date. She had been so worried about Seether and then the accident with Big Red had caused her to push it all the way back in her mind. She pulled the container of the chocolate chip cookies out and popped open the lid, pushing it toward him down the island bar. "Did that go well?"
