"Hume nahi aage badhana apna pariwar, maa."

["I don't want to move forward with starting a family, Maa."]

His mother looked at him strangely and asked surprisingly,

"Aisa kyu bol rahe ho beta?".

["Why are you saying this, beta?"]

He shook his head,

"Hum nahi seh sakte yeh dard. Hum khush hai bas Priya ke sath."

["I can't bear this pain. I'm happy just being with Priya."]

His mother smiled and caressed his head lightly,

"Hum maante hai humne shuru me zid Kiya.. par Abhigyan.. ab Hume pata hai zid kar ke bhi koi faida nahi hai.. hum itne din Zinda hi nahi rahenge ki pota poti ka muh dekh paye."

["I admit I was stubborn at first... but Abhigyan, now I know that being stubborn won't do any good... I won't live long enough to see my grandchildren's faces."]

He looked sadly and spoke, "Kya bakwas baatein kar rahi ho, maa."

["What nonsense are you talking, Maa?"]

She laughed.

But she continued slowly,

"Hum samajh rahe hai tumhare Mann me darr baith Gaya hai. Par tumhari bhi nayi shadi hai Abhigyan. Yeh sab kuch bahut jaldi ho gaya tumhari zindagi me. Isse aage toh badhna padega na beta?".

["I understand that fear has taken root in your heart. But your marriage is also new, Abhigyan. All this happened very quickly in your life. You have to move forward, right beta?"]

He nodded silently.

She spoke,

"Tumhari behen ke janam se pehle humara bhi garbhapat hua tha. Par dekho, Aaj tum dono swastha ho,khush ho, hai na?".

["Before your sister was born, I also had a miscarriage. But look, today both of you are healthy and happy, right?"]

He gulped and nodded his head.

"Bas.. kuch samay do.. khud ko .. Priya ko.. fir aage Jo hoga dekha jaega."

["Just give some time... to yourself... to Priya... then we'll see what happens next."]

He nodded his head.

"Chalo, Hume kamre me chor do humare, aaram karenge hum ab."

["Come, take me to my room, I'll rest now."]

He sat up on bed and replied,

"Yahi so jaiye na maa kuch der, raat ke khane ke baad chale jaiyega."

["Please sleep here for a while, Maa. You can leave after dinner."]

She nodded.

He helped her sleep on bed and then, he left her alone to take some rest after shutting the door.
