"Do you two need a ride today?" The Cap. asked as we walked out of the building. Everyone else had left with Gabby to get her guitar from the band room, and from there they were stopping at McDonalds before practice.

"ROAD TRIP!" I yelled excitedly.

"TO DUNKIN'!" Alex replied in an equally hyper tone.

"Why not McDonalds with everyone else?" The Cap. questioned.

"Because I owe Alex Dunkin'." Was my super blunt and kind of awkward reply. "Hit me up with some oldies Cap."

He put in, of course, the best Doobie Brothers song in the world. "Listen To The Music." And pretty soon, Alex and I were singing along. I think the Cap. was even getting into the song.

"WHAT THE PEOPLE NEED,
IS A WAY TO MAKE THEM SMILE.
IT AIN'T HARD TO DO IF YOU KNOW HOW.
GOTTA GET A MESSAGE, GET IT ON THROUGH,
OH NOW MAMA GONNA GET THAT AFTER A WHILE.

OH, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.
OH, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.
OH, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.
ALL THE TIME..."

Yup, I pretty much worship that song.

Pretty soon we were pulling into the Dunkin' by my house.

"Thanks for the ride Cap." Alex and I said.

"No problem, have fun at practice."

And he drove off as Alex and I walked in. Once we got our drinks and a dozen donuts for after practice, we sat at the table in the corner of the restaurant.

"So I went to Cypress the other day. Met the band. They seem... nice I guess..." Alex said unsurely.

"That's good..." I said, feeling my fingers start tapping.

"Their band needs work though. They aren't as good as they could be. They're too lax with their music to me."

"I guess we'll have to teach them..."
Cue the slight shaking and leg bouncing.

"Yeah it'll be okay. We'll be fine. We'll make them better-"
That's when he notice the shaking and taping and bouncing - pretty much my horrible compulsions at once - so he took my tapping, shaking hand in his and looked me in the eyes,

"We're going to be fine, Sar Bear. I will not leave you. We'll get through this together. You're never gonna be alone. I promise okay? I promise..."

The look in his eye was sincere. It was true and I was calm and I believed it. It still kind of hurt but I felt a bit more relaxed. I nodded and stood up. He followed and we walked out with the bag of donuts. The whole walk home he never let go of my hand and I was thankful because as long as his hand was on mine I actually felt like I could breath.

"What do you think is gonna happen to all of us? Are we gonna have an awkward distance growing between all of us? Am I even gonna know who you are by the time I finish High School? Will the Cap. even recognize us by then..?" And there it was. My biggest fears out in the open. Stabbing the air with an unknown sadness.

"I don't know what we will become as friends or as a band Sar Bear. I'd like to think that we'll all grow old together, but I don't know. Maybe we'll end up big, maybe we'll all stay single and just rely on each other for happiness, maybe I'll even end up marrying one of you bozos. And maybe what you said will happen and we'll just move on with our lives and I can't promise that will or won't happen. But I can promise, that you and I will be best friends no matter what. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you or to us. I promise and I promise I'll never break that promise. And I don't think I've ever used the word promise so many times at once.." he finished with a laugh.
