Nora groaned and flopped dramatically onto the couch.
"Heh, well at least we know what it does. And we'll be sure to keep it safe." Ruby said, trusting the headmaster full heartedly.
There was a beat of silence. Then Blake looked around the room, subtly counting heads. "Has anyone seen Amethyst?"
Qrow's brow furrowed slightly. "She said she was tired. Been in her room since we got back."
Nobody commented further, but a quiet, heavy thought lingered in the air.
Amethyst hadn't said much since the battle at Haven. She fought hard, that much they all knew. And Cinder was gone—defeated. But how...? And by whom?
The team assumed Amethyst had been on the outskirts of the fight. Watching. Supporting. Yet there was a weight behind her silence lately. A tension in her shoulders. The kind that didn't come from exhaustion alone. Something happened down there before Yang showed up. But no one dared pry, not yet.
Forward to the Present
Third POV
"Great! This is just great!" Yang grunts out as she tries to yank her motorcycle out of the snow bank. "Were stranded,(Yank) we lost a third of our party.(Yank) And we have gained! A defenseless old lady!" With a final tug she got it out of the snow. Pulling so hard she fell to the ground.
"My name is Maria Caravera! And I am not defenseless. I'm just a little hard of hearing, and blind without my eyes," She taps her mechanical eye balls, getting them to flicker. "That are in desperate need of repair." Maria slumps over in defeat. "Okay, I'm starting to see your point."
Qrow gives out a grunt. "Yang, knock it off will ya. If we lose our cool now, then we'll just be inviting even more Grimm."
Blake steps up, frustrated. "Does that even matter! Apparently we have been attracting Grimm since we left Haven."
"Oh! And how could I forget about that!" Yang adds and turns to Oscar calling out Ozpin. "What happened to no more lies and half truths?"
Oscar, who was helping Miss Caravera stopped and called out to him. "Yeah! I think it's time we get an explanation." Ozpin takes control. And tries to cover his tracks. "I did not lie to you."
"Well, you certainly didn't tell us anything about the relic." Weiss slides in.
Ozpin, getting nervous, tries to defect the subject. "Please, now is not the time."
"No! We're past that." Yang shouts and stomps in his direction. "I wanna know why you're still not telling us everything."
The distance between Ozpin and the group grows bigger every passing moment. Ruby joins the group.
Oz straightened and tried to take back the situation at hand.
"It is true that the Grimm are attracted to the Relics. It's faint but undeniable. I believe it has to do with their origin, but I'm not entirely sure. Regardless, I feared that making you all aware would only add anxiety and negativity. It seemed like the safer option."
Weiss rolled her eyes at the reason. "You know, I'm getting really tired of people choosing what's best for me."
"Is that why you choose to lie to everyone about Lionheart too?" Yang asked.
Oz, upset, gave a nod. "Yes, as a matter of fact," He turns and paces away from the group. "I believed the kingdom of Mistral deserved better than the truth. And I believed that Leonardo deserved to be remembered for his lifetime of service and not the unfortunate missteps he made in his final years."
