"It's ok Sar bear, you're okay, it's okay. Breath..." That's the sound of my best friend Talia trying to teach me how to breath again.
Hi, I'm Sarah, and right now I'm having yet another panic attack in the bathroom of the hell hole called Palm Tree Middle. But not only is it a hell hole, it's the hell hole my second family and I pretty much call home. It's both a blessing and a curse to get out of here. Although to sixth graders, it's more on the blessing side than it is to eighth graders like me.
When I finally get my breathing under control, and all that's left of the panic attack is the nervous shakes, Tal finally breaks the silence that has fallen over us.
"This is the second one this week and it's only Wednesday Sarah."
"I know, I'm sorry I don't know what happened."
She just looks at me like I just told the stupidest lie ever. She knows I know why I had another attack, just like I know why her and the rest of my friends have been down lately. I'll admit that I'm probably more upset than they are that we're leaving PTM, but everything upsets me more than others...
"I'll talk to Captain America about it if you promise you won't tell everyone else, deal?" Captain America is the nickname my friends and I gave my History teacher, Mr. Carter. I've had him for two years and he's like a second dad to us all, especially me even if he is kind of old. And when I say all of us, I mean me and the gang. Everyone else pretty much hates him, but they all pretty much hate us too, so I guess you could say we're a family of people who everyone doesn't like.
"You know they'll find out anyways."
"Yeah but I don't want to worry them right now. There's still two more days of exams, I'll tell them this Saturday when testing is over."
"They're gonna get mad you didn't tell them sooooonerrrrrrrrrrrr." She said in a sing song voice.
We walked out of the bathroom laughing lightly. I still had the nervous shakes, but I'm kind of used to being a bit jumpy.
"How much time is left this period?" Tal asked.
"20 minutes. Come on, let's go get a pass from nurse Kris. My parents will kill me if they find out I skipped."
"That's twice in three days Sar Bear," nurse Kris started as he poured two cups of orange juice - which he knows is my favorite, "are you sure you're okay?"
Nurse Krisen has got to be the best nurse anyone could ever ask for. Even if there's nothing he can do to help you, or if you're just dropping by to say hi, he'll pour you a cup of juice and give you a pass to class. He treats us like a friend really, not a student.
"I'm fine, just a bit stressed that's all..."
"Mhmm - OW!" I pinched her. I didn't need Nurse Kris to know. He'll worry too much, and maybe even tell my parents.
He looked at us skeptically, but smiled and nodded.
"Well, I hope you feel better. Finish your drink and then here's your pass."
"Thanks bestie." Tal and I said in unison.
I love my friends.
