006 : reunited

AS WE WERE walking, someone suddenly shouted, "Yoon!" from a distance and quickly ran towards us. It was a girl with short, straight hair. She back hugged Ji-yoon tightly, and then her gaze shifted to me. We both recognized each other immediately, and our eyes widened in surprise.

"Hanni?" I asked in disbelief.

"Eun-bi!" She exclaimed and ran over to me, wrapping me in a tight embrace. It was my dear friend from middle school, Hanni. I couldn't believe she was here. As I hugged her back, I felt a wave of emotions wash over me, and I tried my best not to cry. It was so good to see her after all these years.

"You know each other?" Jake questioned, looking at the two of us hugging tightly.

"We used to go to the same elementary and middle school until I moved away and had to go to a different school in seventh grade," Hanni explained to the group. "I've missed you bibi." Hanni pouted a bit.

As soon as I saw Hanni pout, I couldn't help but pout unintentionally too. It felt like a natural response to her emotions. Without a second thought, I pulled her close and hugged her tightly, trying to convey my affection for her. Hanni was one of the few people in my life who truly loved me for who I am, without any jealousy or ulterior motives. She had always been by my side, even during the toughest moments of my life. Her unwavering support and love have helped me overcome numerous obstacles, and I couldn't be more grateful for her presence in my life. Our reunion had reminded me just how special she was to me, and I promised myself to cherish her even more from now on.

"We are missing four more people from the group you haven't met yet. Hey, how about we all sit together at lunch today, meaning you girls join us." Jungwon stated, looking at Ji-yoon and Hanni.
"You too noona." Jungwon smiled looking at me.

As our conversation came to an end, I nodded shyly before we went our separate ways. Feeling a bit lost without anyone to talk to, I decided to stick with Jake like a lost puppy as we made our way through the crowded hallways. It was clear that he was well-liked by many people, as we were constantly greeted by passersby with a friendly "hi". Despite feeling a bit envious of his popularity, I couldn't help but admire how effortlessly he seemed to navigate through the social scene of our school. As we walked, I muttered under my breath, "He sure is popular".

"Soccer game today, you ready Sim?" A group of people wearing soccer jerseys walked passed us as they judged Jake on the shoulder.

"You bet," Jake replied with a confident smirk.

We continued walking and he spoke up as we walked up empty stairs.
"So when's your bday?" He questioned, looking at me. I looked up from the floor to meet his eyes with a confused gaze.

"September 22, 2002," I replied simply, waiting for his reply. "What's yours?"

"You're older than me. My birthday is November 15, 2002." He paused a bit as a smile invaded his face. "Noona." He stated which caught me surprise. I looked up at him flusteredly. "Is that okay?" He suddenly questioned all worried.

"Y-Yeah it just caught me by surprise." I accidentally stuttered and immediately got embarrassed.

We walked into class and I was greeted by the teacher. We made introductions before she guided me to my seat. "You'll be sitting next to Jaeyun." She smiled and pointed to Jake sitting down. I nodded with a bow before walking to Jake and sitting beside him.

Jake gave me a warm smile before taking his textbook out and everyone did the same as the instructions were constructed on the board.

I looked around the classroom, hoping to spot a spare one lying around, but to no avail. It seemed like my only option at this point was to talk to the teacher and ask for one.

I let out a deep sigh, feeling frustrated and embarrassed. Just then, Jake, who was sitting next to me, noticed my distress and offered to share his textbook with me. He moved it over to where we were both sitting and said, "Let's share." I looked at him with gratitude and relief, feeling touched by his kind gesture. At that moment, I couldn't help but appreciate his willingness to help me out.

As the clock ticked away, the anticipation for lunch grew stronger. Finally, the bell rang and everyone sprang up from their seats, excited to take a break from the monotony of classwork. I gathered my books and stuffed them into my backpack before putting it onto my chair. I turned to look at Jake, who was still slumbering soundly beside me. I didn't want to disturb him, but I knew he would be hungry later. So, I gently patted him on the shoulder, hoping it would stir him awake. But to no avail. He was in a deep sleep, and his soft snores filled the room. I tried to shake him a bit more, but it seemed as though he was in his own little world of dreams.

"You have to wake him up like this." Someone stated before hitting the back of Jake's neck making him yelp as he woke up.

He looked up at the person who did it and pouted. "Jayyy!" He cooed slightly as he rubbed his neck. The guy named Jay laughed it off and he patted Jake's shoulder.

"I'm Jay." The tall man was introduced with a polite bow.

"Eun-bi." I returned the bow before looking at Jake who grabbed my backpack and handed it to me.
I took it with a smile and we all walked out of the doors.
