005 : first day
AS OUR EYES locked, a soft gasp escaped my lips, captivated by the sight of Jake amidst the wintry backdrop. His rosy cheeks and snow-dusted hair added to his undeniable charm. Summoning my courage, I called out to him, "Jake."
"Hey, Eun-bi. What a coincidence. Do you live nearby?" His gentle shy and awkward smile was standing out as he strolled alongside me.
Feeling a flutter of nerves, I sought to sustain the conversation. "Ah, yes, I do... What about you?" I inquired, curious about his own proximity.
"Same," he replied, his gaze drifting to my uniform. "So you're starting today huh," he noted, recognizing the school uniform I had on.
"Yep," I sighed shakily but found solace in the company of the walk ahead.
"Don't worry too much," he reassured me with a grin, draping an arm over my shoulder. His unexpected gesture sparked a blush, yet it provided a welcomed comfort. Sensing his touch, he swiftly withdrew, expressing regret with a slight bow and a blush of his own. I assured him with a quick shake of my head, letting him know it was alright. It was a small kindness that meant a lot.
Engaging in light conversation, we made our way towards the school, cherishing the moments before reaching our destination. Suddenly, he turned to me and asked, "What class do you have?" His genuine interest was palpable as he awaited my response.
"I have Class 2-B," I replied, wondering if we might be classmates for the semester. I looked at him, eager for his answer, hopeful for the possibility.
"I can't believe it, me too." His excitement at our shared class was evident, his social nature contrasting with my usual apprehension around such energy. Yet, there was something about him that put me at ease. Each word and gesture exuded warmth and comfort. Although he seemed like the type to be shy and awkward at first, I'm sure he will open up to be an outgoing person.
As we walked through the doors, I glanced down to see Jake kicking off his shoes onto the carpet, ridding them of any unwanted snow. I followed suit, relieved to have someone else setting the tone. The warmth of the building was a welcome contrast to the chilly winter air outside, and I felt my body relax as we made our way further inside.
I kept walking behind Jake, who was heading towards a group of people. As we got closer, a good-looking guy approached him, dabbing him up. "What's up hyung." The guy had a head full of brown hair that was adorned with eye-catching blonde streaks that added a perfect touch of style to his overall appearance.
Niki's teasing smile shined as he looked at me. "Who's this cutie?" he said, playfully.
I tried to keep my composure and replied, "I'm Cha Eun-bi, it's nice to meet you." I bowed slightly, hoping that my nervousness wasn't too obvious.
Niki introduced himself with a soft, yet shy smile. "I'm Nishimura Riki, but everyone calls me Niki." His tone was gentle and friendly, and it put me at ease. "It's nice to meet you too," he said, looking directly into my eyes. I couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and comfort in his presence.
With excitement in his voice, Jake called out to two people who were walking away from us, "Jungwon, Ji-yoon, come over here for a minute!" They turned around and headed towards us, their faces breaking into smiles as they approached.
As they got closer, Ji-yoon's eyes settled on me. "You look really familiar," she said, her brow furrowed as she struggled to place me. She fell silent for a moment, lost in thought, before continuing the conversation.
Jake was trying his best to help Ji-yoon remember. "She's the pretty girl from the café, the one who seemed down," he said, hoping that it would help jog her memory. In doing so, Jake sneaked in a compliment towards me, which made a slight pink dust on my cheeks. However, before I could brush it off, Ji-yoon gasped, as if she finally remembered something.
"Ah! It's really nice to meet you!" Ji-yoon exclaimed with a big smile on her face. She introduced herself and the boy beside her, who also gave a friendly smile and a bow. "I'm Ji-yoon, and this is Jungwon."
( Ji-yoon is a character from my other book MEOW so go check it out! )
I returned the gesture with a shy smile. "Eun-bi, and it's nice to meet you too," I replied simply and quietly.
Niki let out a small laugh as he playfully put his arm around me and gave me a gentle shake. "Don't be so nervous noona." I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment as the rest of our group turned their attention towards me. With a slight teasing tone in his voice, Niki asked, "Are we dealing with an introvert here?" I couldn't help but feel flustered as I realized all eyes were on me.
