Then, Nathaniel and Isabelle walk into the room with several plates in their hands. They set them down in front of each of us before sitting down in their spots.
Asher immediately digs in, so I assume it's okay for me to as well. I cut into the steak and see that it's cooked perfectly. My dad doesn't cook for my family often, as he's almost never home for dinner, but he has definitely has never actually cooked a steak medium rare. It's always rare or medium. I take a bite of the steak and almost moan at how good it is.
Dinner goes by slowly. Braxton, Asher and Nathaniel start discussing something that sounds important. But they speak so vaguely that I have no idea what they're talking about. They all sound really serious though, so I assume that it is about the guy I saw earlier, Damien, and the guy who apparently killed Braxton's parent's: Sebastian.
After I finish my food, I play with my fingers in my lap, impatiently waiting for the men to finish their conversation. I just want to know the truth, and I don't want to wait any longer.
After what feels like hours, Braxton stands up, and everyone follows suit almost immediately. As I'm about to stand as well, Braxton offers me his hand. I'm torn on what to do, but quickly put my hand in his, just so he's more likely to actually follow through on his word and tell me everything.
He leads me back towards the entrance of Nathaniel and Isabelle's home. We walk outside and I'm surprised to look backwards to see that everyone followed us. Suddenly, Braxton stops walking, and his hold on my hand forces me to stop as well. I turn to face him, and am shocked to see nervousness clearly written across his beautiful face.
I swallow loudly, becoming a bit worried myself. Braxton closes his eyes for a moment, before taking a deep breath. When he opens his eyes, he takes me by surprise and plants a quick kiss to my forehead. Blood rushes to my face and I look down.
"The truth..." Braxton starts, "is very difficult to explain. There are a lot of things that I'm going to tell you that you aren't going to believe. So... I'm going to show you something, okay? If I show you... what I am, then hopefully you'll understand everything else too. Just... don't be afraid, Brynlee. Please."
I furrow my eyes at his words, confused. But, before Braxton can do anything, Asher's voice gets everyone's attention.
"I'll do it," is all he says.
Braxton looks at him with dark eyes. I'm waiting for him to say something, but he doesn't.
"She's going to be afraid of whoever does it. Your mate shouldn't be afraid of you," Asher explains.
Braxton sighs, closing his eyes once more. "Okay," he replies, wrapping an arm around my waist and turning, so we're both facing Asher.
I can feel Natalie, Isabelle, and Nathaniel behind us, but none of them say anything. Suddenly, Asher pulls off his suit jacket and starts unbuttoning his dress shirt. My eyes widen at his actions.
I feel Braxton shaking slightly as Asher pulls down his pants, so that he is only in his underwear. I lean into Braxton instinctively, and his shaking pretty much stops. I make sure I'm only looking into Asher's eyes, and not at his half naked body.
And then, Asher starts... changing. It happens fast, too fast for my brain to fully understand. It almost looks like... fur starts to take the place of his skin. And the sound, oh my god, the sound. It's literally like bones are breaking. Once the... process is over, all I know is that a few seconds ago, it was Asher standing in front of us, and now, a gigantic wolf is in his place.
I want to believe that I'm crazy. That maybe they fed me something weird at dinner. But, I saw it. And the wolf's eyes that stare at me are one hundred percent identical to Asher's emerald eyes. First off, there's no way that a wolf has that color eyes. And also, the wolf is like, six feet tall, way taller than me! That's not normal. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Asher just turned into a freaking wolf.
I stumble backwards, somehow managing to get out of Braxton's grasp. My breathing has speed up and my heart is pounding really fast. I open my mouth to scream, but nothing comes out. Black dots consume my vision in a matter of seconds. I don't even notice that I'm falling until Braxton's strong arms catch me before I hit the ground. The last things I see are his beautiful blue eyes looking at me with worry, before everything goes black.
Picture above is Asher's wolf!
