Owen Grady
"Come back here, you little thief! Seether! I mean it! I'll chase you down, mark my words!"
There seemed to be a little laugh from the forest; it was like a chortle that only a two-foot high, seven day old Spinosaurus baby could make when it stole your father's famous hat. As Amy stomped to the center of Seether's enclosure playfully, the ferns and other foliage around her violently shook as he ran about her. She knew for a fact that the only way that she was going to get her hat back was if she outsmarted him.
Baby Seether, who had been named after the song Broken by the music group Seether, was the strangest creature that Amy had ever had the pleasure to work with. He was smart; she played games with him every day and had some of the most complicated rules that she had ever used with an animal, like color codes. He was almost doubling in size each day; from the teacup dog size that he had been when he had hatched, Seether was now almost to her thigh with the beginnings of a beautiful sail growing on his back. He wouldn't listen to anyone else; the other trainer that Amy had been assigned with had eventually quit and went to the T-Rex when Seether just sat there and glared at him, refusing to do anything. And, to top things off, the turd wouldn't go to sleep until he listened to Amy's playlist of her favorite songs.
That, of course, had been an accident. He had stolen her phone -which meant that he literally pulled it from her back pocket with his hand as quick as lightning- and had accidentally turned on her music when she had been chasing him. The baby Spinosaurus would sit there and hum, matching the tone and pitch of the singer. All that Amy could figure out was that it was similar to how Spinosaurus communicate with each other and, instead of understanding what the music said, Seether was able to sing along with sounds.
But the little turd wouldn't fall asleep anymore until she played Broken by Seether and Amy Lee. And the worst part was that she had to sing it to him.
Her father, Alan Grant, had a baby cow when she had sent him that first text message. He had called her the second he saw the message, giving her a long lecture on how she needed to be careful, how she needed to this and that, and blah-blah. Amy tuned him out after thirty minutes and made herself supper. When he was finished, he had sighed and wished her good luck. Now, after Seether's intelligence had been fully displayed, Alan was just as confused as most of the people in the park. "I would almost say that he's smarter than the Velociraptors back in Jurassic Park, and they knew how to open doors," Alan had remarked once after Amy had sent him a video of one of their games. "It's absolutely remarkable over what he can do. He reminds me of some primates with his level of intelligence, but I almost say he's smarter than that." When Amy asked Henry Wu about it, he had just smiled, said "excellent," and walked away.
So far, out of the seven dinosaurs that Amy was working with, Seether was her favorite. Well, he required the most time so naturally she and the Spinosaurus made a strong bond. Some of the other dinosaurs she worked with was the Baryonyx, the herd of Parasaurolophus, the Metriacanthosaurus, the Suchomimus, the Edmontosaurus herd, and then the bunch of Pachycephalosaurus. When the herbivores were concerned, she did half the work; she would study the creatures for an entire day before suggesting things to the trainers that truly cared for them. With the carnivores, she was the leading caretaker. It felt like everyone listened to Amy when it came to their dinosaurs or asked her questions about theirs -but, then again, she was only training the largest dinosaur of the park so far.
"I'm not joking, Seether," Amy said after a few useless moments of digging through the undergrowth fruitlessly. She heard another chortle from the dinosaur and a smile broke through what she had been hoping as her tough demeanor. "Seether! Give me back my father's hat!"
