The Seven Deadly Simpson Brothers
Chapter 26 ~ Strike back
I knocked on Walter's front door desperately. Why were they taking so long?
"Open up!" I yelled.
I needed to get in. And I needed to get in now.
"Open the door!"
The Santaricos decided to strike back a week later. I had only just found out from Walter this Sunday morning and I had rushed to make sure things were okay. To see if Gomez was okay.
I banged harder and Eli opened the door wide. He was looking much better and had started coming back to school near the end of the last week. Right now, he was looking upset again.
"How is he?" I asked panting.
"Better than before," Eli said. "This is all Walter's fault."
"You can't hold it against him, he's sorry," I said.
Eli shrugged looking down.
"Is he in his room?" I asked, looking up the stairs.
"Yeah," Eli said chewing on his lip, his dimples faintly appearing and disappearing as he did so.
I took the stairs two at a time only to bump into Walter when I reached the top.
"That was quick!" he winced, stepping back. The cut on his face was just healing and I could tell sometimes his ribs still hurt him.
"I rode your bike," I said. "You left it round last time."
"Oh yeah," Walter was quiet for a while, then he looked at me closely. "You really care about him don't you."
"Of course!" I said.
"What did you tell her?" Eli stepped past me asking him as if I wasn't even there.
"What happened," Walter answered. "That Gomez got poisoned."
"You never explained how it actually happened," I looked up at them both.
"We don't know for sure. But Gomez is allergic to almonds and he had a really bad allergic reaction yesterday when he went to town."
"But wouldn't he know what he was eating?" I asked.
"That's were the Santaricos come in," Eli answered. "We figure Pedro used some of his sources to sneak something into his food. It was disguised, obviously."
"What did he have?"
"Giovanni said that the three of them had smoothies and cookies. So they must have blended it into both and they would have trusted the cafe not to have put something extra in." Eli scowled shaking his head.
I shook my head absolutely mystified. How could anyone do that?
Walter rubbed his jaw, "They don't even remember the name of the cafe after what happened next, but there must have been someone from the other gang working there. Pedro knows a lot about us so he knew that Gomez was allergic to almonds and when his goon told him that our they were there, he must have given him instructions."
"We know their weaknesses too," Walter said darkly. "But we can't do the same thing because they will be expecting it."
"You shouldn't do anything back!" I said frowning. "Just leave it before it gets much worse and someone actually gets really hurt!?"
