“Tangina! Sino ba ‘yong nanulak sa akin?”

The others were complaining, but they immediately fell silent when they turned to me.

I shuddered when I saw a boy hanging from above the wall—walang buhay.

I didnʼt recognize the guy since his back was turned and his face was buried. Still, his PE uniform indicated he was a high school student.

With so much noise around, I couldnʼt understand what they were talking about. I was about to leave the crowd because I was bothered by the noise and getting annoyed, but I froze when someone suddenly shouted.

“Nathan!”

My eyes instinctively turned to the three boys sobbing and calling out the name of their late friend.

Wait, I think Iʼve seen those three before. Where did I see them?

I approached the three of them, not bothering to apologize to the students I bumped into. I donʼt know why Iʼm still here. I was just curious, but now that Iʼve seen what theyʼre looking at, I could leave because my friends are probably waiting for me in the faculty. Still, I wonʼt leave until I get some answers.

Sila iyong nag-akyat-pader noong nakaraang araw. I warned them Iʼd report them to the guidance office if it happened again, but they still did it, and now see whatʼs happening to their friend.

“Ate!” I was startled when he suddenly hugged me.

I quickly grasped his arms and gently pushed him away. “Donʼt call me ate. Iʼm not your sister.”

Napapahiya naman siyang yumuko. “Sorry.” He slowly looked up and forced a smile. “Iʼm Franko, by the way. And these are my friends, Dustine and Jimboy,” he said, introducing his two friends.

“Ikaw, ate, anong pangalan mo?”

I almost rolled my eyes. Iʼd already told him not to call me ate, it was so annoying!

“Brielle.”

“What brings you here, Ate Brielle? Do you study here?” Franko asked, wiping his teary eyes.

“I teach here,” I replied.

His eyes widened. “Really? Teacher ka po ba?” he asked, clearly surprised.
