Chapter Fourteen : Mrs. Bakugou
—
"So how was 'yer weekend?" The tall blond asks Y/n after a few moments of silence.
Y/n purses her lips with a hum, "It was alright. Izuku helped me get some things done."
The man rolls his eyes at the mention of Izuku, but he keeps his negative thoughts to himself. "Y'know, if you need help with anything I'm around. I don't do much these days." He states, glancing down at her.
Y/n nods, "Thank you. I'll keep that in mind..."
It's quiet for a moment, but then Bakugou decides to break it with another question. "When was the last time 'yer horses saw a farrier?"
Y/n stops in her tracks with furrowed eyebrows. "Uhm... What's... What's a farrier?"
Bakugou stops as well, but out of shock instead of confusion. He turns and looks at her, his eyebrows nearly touching his hairline and his mouth agape. "Sweetheart, it's been two years. Have you had anyone come out to see 'yer horses?"
The young teacher starts racking her brain for any instance where someone besides her friends came to the property. Every two weeks, Miss Uraraka would personally bring her groceries. And there were a few times when Keigo Takami came out for dinner. But besides that, no one has been out to Y/n's house.
Y/n shakes her head, "No." She mutters.
Bakugou blinks. It takes every muscle in his body to not curse Y/n for the blatant neglect, but he finds a way to justify her actions—or lack there of. She didn't come from a place like Mighty River. How is she supposed to know that horses need their hooves trimmed every few weeks? Her father probably took care of that before he went away. But even now, after two years of being the head of your house, is there really an excuse...?
"Well," Bakugou huffs, "I'll come out later and give 'em a look. Come on, let's get you to the schoolhouse."
The blond man quickly starts walking down the lane, leaving Y/n to catch up for a moment, who takes it upon herself to entangle her arm with his as soon as she can. Bakugou tries to hide his smile at the action, and he ultimately fails.
"I'll see you later." Bakugou mutters as he watches his little teacher walk up the stairs of the schoolhouse, a small smile fighting to take place on his lips.
"Thank you, Bakugou—" Y/n pauses, dropping her hands in front of her and coming down a step, "Thank you for walking me here, and thank you in advance for coming out later."
Bakugou smiles, "Of course, sweetheart."
They bid each other farewell, and Y/n watches the blond leave. Once he's out of her sight, she ducks into the schoolhouse and begins setting up for the day.
She opens the windows to air it out (the air gets stale in the classroom after the weekend) and she sweeps the floor. She'll set up the desks in their proper orientation and crack out spare pencils. Before her students run through the door, Y/n will write today's agenda on the chalkboard and pull out a few copies of a new book.
By the time she sets the last book down on a desk, her students begin to roll in.
"Good mornin' Miss Y/n!"
"Good morning Miss Teacher!"
"Hi Miss Y/n!"
Y/n smiles and greets all of them as they walk through the door. She finds her own seat at her desk and begins to check off attendance.
"Good morning Mrs. Bakugou!"
Her head snaps up extremely quick. "Excuse me?"
The girl who greeted Y/n in that manor is one of Y/n's favorites. She's the daughter of the mayor, and she's an absolute sweetheart. Okado Hana is her name.
"You're marrying Mr. Bakugou, aren't you?" She asks, her big brown eyes sparkling with confusion. Before Y/n can ask where she got that idea from, Hana beats her to it. "My mama says that you're going to be marrying Mr. Bakugou, so I thought... I thought you were already married?"
Y/n can feel her face flush and images of a future with Bakugou Katsuki begin to flash before her eyes. She does her best to swat those away to focus on the task at hand. The young teacher rises out of her seat and goes to stand in front of Hana, where she kneels down to maintain eye contact.
"Hana," She starts, "Mr. Bakugou and I... we have a relationship. He's courting me, which could eventually lead to marriage." She explains.
It doesn't dawn on her until that moment, that marriage could be a result of all of this stuff with Bakugou.
Hana hums. "I see... So you aren't Mrs. Bakugou?"
Y/n shakes her head, "No, Hana. I'm still Miss Y/n."
The girl frowns, but she's quick to replace the frown with a bright smile. "Alright! Well good morning Miss Y/n!"
And with that, Hana bounces off to join a group of little girls by the door. Y/n stands back up to her full height and with a sigh, she walks back to her desk to wait for the rest of her kids to run through the door.
Izuku stares up at the schoolhouse with a small frown. The sunlight is beaming right down on him, causing sweat to form on his brow and his face to become hot. It's lunch, and instead of spending it back at the L/n house doing chores, he's decided to walk into town to have lunch with Y/n.
He isn't too sure when school lets out for lunch, but he's sure it's soon. Izuku turns his gaze to the buildings down the road. The schoolhouse Y/n teaches at sits in one of the quieter parts of the town. There's more houses and barns than stores here, but it's still quite busy.
Izuku spots women tending to their gardens and hanging up laundry on their lines. He sees some seated on their porches and talking with their neighbors, children too young for school playing in the yards or running around the street. The sight of these domestic scenes brings warmth to Izuku's heart.
It's no secret that he wants children of his own one day, and it's no secret that he wants to settle down with a certain school teacher. He would give anything to live like the people here; to live and enjoy life with his wife by spending each day basking in her presence. He wouldn't mind if each day was spent doing laundry or tending to their garden, or watching their children. He wouldn't mind even if he had to work to support his dreams. Time with his lovely wife was all Izuku wanted.
Izuku blinks and suddenly, there's children everywhere.
