The Funeral?

Bria:

They say life's a bitch and than you die. I guess they were talking about my mother, because she was a major bitch and now she's dead. I guess I really should have seen this one coming, she went crazy after she caught her man in my bed. I believe the military police ruled it as a murder, suicide. She had taken Greg's gun and killed him and than killed herself leaving me all alone. She was a selfish women that only thought about her own happiness, she didn't care about mines. "We commence her body to the ground ashes to ashes, dust to dust." The minister completed his service and I looked around only seeing me and my mothers best friend Michelle.

"That was a beautiful service Bria." Aunt Michelle hugged me. "It was nice of the military to help bury her."

"Yea I guess." I wiped my eyes not really knowing how to feel. "I don't know what to do next, since the house was on the army base they told me I needed to be out before the first of the month."

"I took care of that for you."

"Your going to let me stay with you?"

"No sweetie." She looked over my shoulder and I saw two men walking up the small hill in the cemetery towards us. For a brief moment I had flash back to four years ago, the older man my father looked at me with tears in his eyes. The last time I saw him his hair was all black, now it was colored with grey. I used to be his little girl but now i'm a grown ass women and we don't know each other anymore. My brother walked next to him and I had to stop myself from smiling, Josh has grown into a handsome man, but i'm not his little sister anymore they both failed to protect me.

"Brianna." My father pulled my stiff body into a hug. "I've dreamed of this day baby girl for four years."

Josh pulled me in next and I lightly patted his back. "I missed you so much lil sis." Josh was only three years older than me and always treated me like a baby.

I wasn't feeling this family reunion, they let her take me from them. I remembered that night clearly, when my mother woke me up out of my sleep.

Flash Back

"Brianna baby wake up."

"Momma?"

"Shh here put these clothes on."

"Are you crying?"

"Yes baby your daddy and I got in to an argument and he told me to take you and leave. He doesn't want us anymore." She cried harder and I wrapped my arms around her.

"Why would daddy say that? What about Josh? we just can't leave him here."

"He only wants Josh now please get dress my friend is waiting for us outside." She picked up a bag off my floor that was full of my clothes. I cried trying to figure out what I had done wrong for my father to no longer want me. We were so close, I would go everywhere with him I was his little girl. Covering my mouth she lead me outside to the car that was parked down the street with it's lights turned off. Opening the back door I climbed in and choked on the heavy smell of cigarettes and cheep liquor. My mother leaned over and kissed the man behind the wheel and smiled no longer shedding tears. "Baby this is your new Daddy Greg, Greg this is my baby girl Brianna." That day changed my life forever.

"Who called them?" I turned my back on them and demanded answers.

"Brianna." My father called my name.

"That's not my name." I yelled back at him, I had stopped being Brianna years ago.

"Your mother gave me your father's phone number and told me to call him if anything ever happened to her. It's time for you to go back home Bria."
