After a slight panic attack at my desk I grab my cell phone from my bag and head straight for the ladies room to call Sam.
" Pick up...Pick up?" I mutter to myself as I pace nervously.
" What's up shortcake" I hear her cheery voice through the line.
" Samantha" I huff.
" Oh no, what has happened" She knows me too well I would never use her full name.
" What has happened well not much, My morning went well was just a few minutes late into the office because of busy LA traffic but...Oh and i've slept with a client" I say the last part in a shout whisper.
" Wow, Cora it's only 10 in the morning but go for it I guess, thanks for letting me know?"
" Not this morning idiot, that guy from the Bahamas....he's here...with his band, he's the important client Mr. Haynes was talking about"
" Wait wait wait... did you just say band" I roll my eyes.
" Yeah Mötley Crüe, apparently they were a big deal back in the 80s"
" Shut the fuck up..." She says slowly which makes me worried.
" What!? What!?"
" No way, Aidan (her older brother) totally had their records back in the day" She gasps.
" Okay but are we missing the point that I slept with a client? I could get fired!"
" No we are missing the fact that you Cora Daniel's totally had sex with a fucking rockstar" She laughs.
" No I slept with a financial advisor, you know I wouldn't have had sex with him if he was some rockstar womanizer" I argue.
" Bold of you to assume he's a womanizer just because he's a rockstar"
" I've googled him don't try and fool me"
I suddenly hear someone else enter the rest room.
" Sam i've gotta go, fill Ava in and meet me at my place later" I say before hanging up the phone.
I swiftly run back to my desk peeping into the office seeing them all still inside.
I can't believe this, and before anyone thinks i'm pissed because he lied to me about who he is, i'm not. I think I might be more pissed because now I definitely can't sleep with him again because he's a client.
I wonder why they are even here, obviously something to do with publishing but....
I quickly get taken out of my daydream by the sounds of the door opening. I put my head down pretending to type in my computer.
" Thank you for choosing HarperCollins I can assure you, you won't be disappointed" I hear Mr. Haynes kissing his own ass.
"Cora" I look up at them all who now stand in front of my desk.
" Can you show them out please" I stare at Mr Haynes wide eyed at his request.
" But they found their way up here" My response comes out of my mouth before I have time to register what I said.
That earns a very stern look from my boss to which I then stood up.
I walk ahead of the four men not making any conversation, I need to be professional and don't want anyone knowing about my rendezvous with the bass player.
I push the button of the elevator door and watch it open, they begin to pile in all giving me their thanks.
" I'll catch up with you guys in a sec" Nikki says pushing closed the elevator.
I stare up at him forgetting how gorgeous those green eyes are.
" Nice to see you again Amanda" He says sarcastically.
I panic.
" I don't know what you're talking about" I deny.
" Oh please don't play that game with me you know exactly what i'm talking about" He says taking a step closer to me. He's so close I can smell his cologne.
" Alright fine, what do you want me to say...I never thought I would see you again "Brady" which by the way is a lame fake name" I say taking another step back from him.
He laughs.
" Come on you knew it was fake straight away" He smiles.
" Yeah I did, everything else sure was believable but you couldn't come up with a better name"
" Okay i'll admit the name was bad but what difference does it make" He shrugs.
" The difference it makes is that I wouldn't have slept with you if I knew who you really were" I say coldly.
" Wait... you mean you didn't know who I was, I just thought we were playing some sort of game" He replies to which so scrunch my eyebrows.
" No it wasn't a game, look i'm sorry I can't have what happened between us jeopardize my job, I need this job" I say looking into his eyes.
" Yeah don't worry sweetheart I won't be screaming it from the rooftops anytime soon" And with that he opens the elevator doors and leaves.
I stand there dumbfounded, I think I might have insulted him.
" I'm such a jerk" I mutter to myself as I make my way back to my desk.
" Oh finally you're back, I need you to pencil in another meeting with Mötley Crüe for Friday, their managers number is attached to the email I sent you" Mr Haynes says flipping through some papers.
" Sir, can I ask what exactly are Mötley Crüe doing with us?"
" Well they are writing an autobiography, I'll tell you i'm sure they have a lot of stories to tell" He laughs.
" Oh so you know who they are" I ask.
He looks at me skeptically.
" Of course, I used to go to all their gigs in the whiskey back when I was about your age" He smiles.
I try and picture him at a rock gig but quickly shake the image from my brain.
" Don't tell me you don't know who they are" He asks shocked.
Well actually sir I know Nikki pretty well.
" Not really" I say shrugging my shoulders.
" Oh well could've fooled me you got so flustered in their spilling the water I assumed you knew who they were, maybe even had a little crush on one of them" He laughs walking away.
