My mother's eyes are beautiful.
My dad said he fell in love with mom's eyes at first sight. The first time he saw her in the field he was immediately attracted to her dark eyes. Nakakahawa. And it's like they're drawing you in.
Miriam Doromal, my mom, was a new volunteer in a feeding program sponsored by a group of Christian missionaries, in which my dad was one of them.
Orchestrated by God, they fell in love and got married after two years of knowing each other.
Well, mom comes from a wealthy family and a devoted Catholic. Dad, on the other hand, is a born again Christian and God is all he has. He's an Irish man at sa kanya ko minana ang aking mga mata, kulay itim na medyo may pagka-berde.
It took three years para tanggapin ulit si mama ng kanyang mga magulang, it took three years na tinaggap nila si dad, that was when I was born. At the end of the day, God doubled the blessings on my parents.
And because they have wisdom from God on how to manage their money well, mas lumago pa ang ilan sa negosyo ni mama.
I was five when Tito Jonathan's wife, Tita Rebecca, gave birth to a baby girl. She was named Naomi. And because we're very close with them, it was expected that I should treat her as my little sister.
At first, I didn't like her.
I felt like I was left behind because of her.
"Josh, come here hijo. Tingnan mo ang baby ni Tita Rebecca." Mom said when she saw me pouting in a corner.
I was only five years old then!
"Did you hear me, son?" Mom repeated and so I jumped off from the chair I sitted on.
"Yes, mommy."
At that moment I felt like everything was slow motion, nakatingin silang lahat sa'kin. She was clothed with white clothes, and I couldn't see her face yet. Maybe it was too small.
At dahil maliit pa ako nun, Dad carried me on his arms para masuling ko ang mukha ng baby. "Isn't she cute?" Dad said.
Finally, I got a closer look. Dad's right. She was really cute. I leaned closer to look at her face more closely, but it wasn't her cuteness that stunned me.
It was her eyes.
She giggled as if reacting cutely to my touch. When I touched her, she smiled.
