Hi, hope you're okay :)
"Maybe you should go back and talk to her." Clint suggested, Nat shook her head. "she's just gonna push me away again like she always does." She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "yes but clearly there's a reason. She cares about you and clearly trusts you enough to ask you for help so maybe she just needs your help to trust you even more."
"Fine. But if she does it again today I'm not talking to her for the rest of the month. You can deal with her." Natasha got up with a sigh and walked quickly to the med bay.
"Hey masha" She smiled peaking her head around the door to establish the kind of mood Maria was in. She saw the frown on her face and knew she should prepare herself for a fight. Maria rolled her eyes, "I thought you left already."
"you know I can't stay away from you for too long." natasha smirked, trying to lighten the mood. "really? The last 6 months would tell me otherwise." Natasha wanted to point out the fact that Maria was the one who told her to leave but she stopped herself. She was tired of them arguing. "Can you just stop with the bullshit and tell me how you really feel? You're always hiding behind some facade."
"You want me to be honest? I don't like you. I hate you. I regret every moment I wasted on you. You are the most cold, infuriating person I know. If it wasn't for Clint and fury making me I wouldn't be here right now."
Maria smirked at her. "is that it? That's all you've got?" Natasha shook her head as the tears built in her eyes, deep down it tore Maria up to see the woman she used to love in such a stare but she didn't let her face show it.
After that natasha stayed silent she took a seat in the corner and just sat with her thoughts. The tears kept flowing but she tried to hide it, she didn't want to give Maria the satisfaction of knowing how much she was hurting.
The cold agent didn't notice, she was to busy sitting in her anger but when everything got too much she retreated to the childish mindset that usually helped her cope. However when she was in her little space there was always one thing on her mind, one person.
When she looked over at natasha and saw the tears she couldnt bear it, she shuffled out of bed ignoring the pain shooting down her body and walked slowly to natasha. The redhead didn't notice until she felt a hand stroke her face, upon instinct she grabbed the hand in a tight grip, but when she saw the scared look on Marias face she let go with a sorry expression. Maria waited a few seconds before touching the Russians face again, wiping her tears. "please don't cry."
"how do you do that?" natasha looked at maria curiously, she didn't understand how the person she loved could turn into someone else so quickly. She didn't understand why Maria acted this way around her, no one else got to see as many layers of her personality as natasha did. She didn't understand why Maria would let someone she hated so much see the most vulnerable sides of her so often.
"why do you let me in just to shut me out again? Is this a game to you? Do you like seeing me hurt? What is it?" Natasha didn't get a response, she wondered if she ever would. "forget it, you need to get back in bed before you hurt yourself." natasha sighed, standing up and guiding her into bed.
"Im going to bed, I will come back to check on you tomorrow." The spy went to walk away but a hand on her wrist stopped her, she turned to see a scared look on the brunettes face, she had seen that look a few times before, she knew what it meant. "fine I will stay, but you owe me." Maria smiled patting the bed. "I don't get a choice in this do I?"
Maria shook her head no, natasha sighed climbing in next to her. "fine but stay on your side and we are not cuddling." She said firmly, it only took a few seconds of her eyes being closed for Maria to shuffle closer to her and wrapping her arms around the Russian.
"one night. Just one night. Tomorrow you're on your own. And if you tell Barton I will kill you." natasha replied trying to hide her smile as she cuddled her back. She hadn't been so close to the brunette in 6 months and it was an understatement to say she missed it. Some nights she had to cuddle a pillow wearing Marias old hoodie just to fall asleep.
A fact she managed to hide until a slightly drunk Tony stark 'accidentally walked into the wrong room.' Soon everyone was teasing her about it, even hill joined in but secretly she found it sweet. In fact when natasha tried to return the hoodie to end the tormenting she found it back in her room a few days later with an even stronger scent.
In fact whenever Maria caught natasha wearing the hoodie shed make a point to spray natasha with her perfume and walk off with a wink followed by a smirk as she pretended not to notice the huge smile on nats face.
Natasha fell asleep to these memories replaying in her head, hoping somehow they could go back to those moments and that they wouldn't go back to hating each other in the morning.
See ya
