Percy's POV
I'm glad that it ended up this way. Now I know that Tyson will stay safe. I know that I wouldn't be able to live with myself if Tyson went into the games.
There has only been one volunteer so far. All I know is that these people will be my enemies.
Athena walks up, her bowls set out before her. She inserts her hand into the female bowl and selects one name.
"Annabeth Chase."
A girl with blonde hair and gray eyes walks up and my heart feels a sharpness. A need. Her eyes go my way and I feel myself be sucked into something.
(A/N this belongs to Rick. There were so many scenes to choose from!)
She raises an eyebrow at me.
"You got something to say to me, Seaweed Brain?"
"You'd probably kick my butt," I reply.
"You know I would kick your butt."
I brush blue cake crumbs off my hands. "When I was in the River Styx turning invulnerable...Nico said I had to concentrate on one thing that kept me anchored to the world, that made me want to stay mortal."
She stares at the horizon. "Yeah?"
"Then up on Olympus," I continue, "When they wanted to make me a god and stuff , I kept thinking-"
"Oh, you so wanted to."
"Well, maybe a little. But I didn't, because I thought- I didn't want things to stay the same for eternity, because things could always get better. And I was thinking..." I feel my throat go dry.
"Anyone in particular?" Annabeth's voice is soft.
I look and see that she is suppressing a smile.
"You're laughing at me," I complain.
"I am not!" She argues.
"You are so not making this easy."
She laughs for real and throws her arms around my neck.
"I am never, ever going to make things easy for you, Seaweed Brain. Get used to it."
Her lips met mine and I could have sworn that my brain melted. I wanted to stay that way forever. But I hear a growly voice behind me.
"Well, it's about time!"
The pavilion was illuminated with torches. Clarisse led the way with the rest following and they hoist us up on their shoulders.
"Oh come on!" I complain. "Is there no privacy?"
"The lovebirds need to cool off. " Clarisse shouts.
"To the canoe lake!" The Stoll brothers say.
They cheer and carry us to the lake. They keep us close enough to hold hands. Annabeth is laughing. I know my face is red, but I try to laugh too.
We hold hands right until the moment they dump us into the water.
I make an air bubble at the bottom of the lake. Our friends are waiting for us, but I wasn't in any hurry.
And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time.
It ends.
I know that it really happened. It was too real to be made up. But why don't I remember it? I think that I would normally remember something that great.
The boy has already been drawn and Ares is already on the stage, getting ready to draw a name.
This is officially the weirdest day of my life.
