After the fight against the Mothman and that thing that was stalking them, Kestrel and company were on RTB since the mission was complete. However, it gave them a lot of questions. Where did the Mothman come from? Was it actually a comms base? What was actually happening was something that was beyond anyone's recognition. Not even part of Sir Alex's plans.
Kestrel was looking outside of the window, leaning on the side of the door, standing with his mask removed looking deep in thought until he felt someone patting his shoulder.
Turning around, Kestrel saw Blake was giving him a worried look.
Blake: (Removing her hand from his shoulder) Are you okay?
Kestrel: (Removing his hand from the door) Don't know. Whatever was down there was bad. i don't know how bad we're talking but it's pretty fucked up. I'm thinking about what could've made it go Radio silent but... I can't get anything out of it. It doesn't make sense. (He goes to sit down with Jaune beside him getting patted by Pyrrha due to his motion sickness) I don't even know if they were hiding stuff from us. I hope they actually know something about this.
After saying those words. Kestrel looked at Ruby and Yang. The former being hugged from the side as if she was looking for protection. What happened there messed Ruby up. Kestrel looked to the side and saw that Weiss was carrying Crescent Rose. Ruby was given a "kill or be killed" back in there and she did not like it. I'm surprised she isn't crying out loud.
Kestrel then looked at the pilot, asking.
Kestrel: Hey, what's the ETA?
Pequod: 10 mikes, sir.
Kestrel nodded at him, got up from his seat and crouched in front of Ruby who looked at him then hugged him tight, not wanting to let him go. Weiss who was beside Ruby got up so Kestrel could sit beside Ruby which he did and they stayed there for a long time.
*Timeskip 12 minutes later*

Kestrel was walking towards the office of Komarov while the others went to do different things. Ruby was taken back to patch with Yang to have a few days off, Blake is waiting in the lobby for Kestrel reading her books. As Kestrel approached the door he opened with force
*Door opened with a bit of force.sfx*
As Komarov turned to Kestrel, he got up and asked him directly.
Komarov: Kestrel? The report just came in.
Kestrel: Then you fucking know what I want to know. What the fuck was happening down there?
Komarov: What you saw back there was an anomaly. Something that shouldn't exist yet it does.
Kestrel: Then what was it doing in there?
Komarov: Want the short answer of the long answer?
Kestrel: Give me the short one.
Komarov: Portals.
Kestrel: (Regretting it already) Give me the long one.
Komarov: Alright, do you remember the case of a young man disappearing 5 years before your arrival?
