“Buhay pa ba siya?”
“Nakita mo namang humihinga pa.”
“Bakit hindi pa siya nagigising?”
“Malamang! Tulog pa.”
I woke up to the sound of two people talking, but my eyes remained closed as I was too lethargic to stir. Still feeling weak, I wanted to drift back to sleep.
“Anong gagawin mo, Siah?”
“Shhh... ‘wag kang maingay.”
I couldnʼt sleep due to the chatter I heard, so I opened my eyes. Josiahʼs face immediately came into view, slowly leaning in towards me. His eyes were closed, and his lips pouted, as if he wanted to kiss me.
Before his lips touched mine, my fist quickly landed on his mouth.
He stepped back and touched his lip. “Damn!” he muttered, wiping the side of his bloody lip with his thumb. “Looks like Sleeping Beautyʼs awake.” He grinned at me.
Abaʼt gago. Nagawa pang mang-asar! Upakan ko kaya ulit ito?
I sat up from lying on the bed and gave him a stern look. Frowning, I turned to his companions sitting on the white monoblock chairs. I looked around until I realized I was in the clinic.
I tried to recall what happened earlier. Braxton had locked me in the abandoned classroom, but Henry showed up to help me escape. I then stormed into the classroom to confront Braxton, but thatʼs when everything went black.
“Who brought me here?” I asked, still disoriented.
“Malamang kami! Pinagtulungan ka naming buhatin—ang bigat mo kasi!” Josiah teased.
“Donʼt believe him,” Harrison interrupted, folding his arms as his eyes looked at me with no emotion. “Henry brought you here... we just followed him.”
I caught a glimpse of Henry, who was sitting with his legs crossed while reading a book. For the third time, he saved my life again. I donʼt know how to thank him.
By the way, why are they here? After what I did to Braxton, theyʼre here now, watching over me while I was passed out.
“Mommy? What happen to your face?” Evan asked who suddenly appeared in front of me. His head was tilted while observing me.
“Your skin is red.” He poked my cheek. “Are you blushing? Or did you eat spicy food?”
What?
My forehead creased in confusion. I looked at them curiously, but no one seemed inclined to explain what was on my face!
“Look at your face in the mirror,” Josiah said with a smirk, pointing to the mirror on the side table.
A knot of anxiety formed in my chest as I shakily picked up the round mirror. It reminded me of that TV show where the main character would change appearance and scream upon seeing themselves in the mirror.
I gulped at the thought. I held the mirror in front of me, just enough to see my red face and skin rashes. My eyes widened in shock but I didnʼt scream. I looked at my arms and it was the same. Itʼs not like Iʼve never seen this coming, but the shock still hits me. Itʼs been three years since it all began.
