Almost the entire story will be in first person.
*Bold is Na'vi - Italics is Jake's narration, emphasis, or thoughts (you'll know)
When I was lying there in the VA hospital, with a big hole blown through the middle of my life, I started having these dreams of flying. I was free. Sooner or later though, you always have to wake up.
I breathed in heavily as my eyes shot open. The enclosed space was dark, a blue tint being the only source of light. I gulped, my throat dry as I gazed as the two bubbles of liquid - unfortunately, probably drool - floated effortlessly in the air.
In Cryo, you don't dream at all. It doesn't feel like six years. More like a fifth of tequila and an ass-kicking.
A loud whirring noise filled my ears as a bright light filled my eyes. I squinted, fighting the urge to vomit as my weight became zero, the restraints keeping me from floating away.
Tommy was the scientist, not me. He was the one who wanted to get shot light-years out in space to find the answers.
"Are we there yet?" A man beside me asked.
The nurse grabbed his arm, "Yeah, we're there, sunshine. We're there." The nurse came to me and grabbed my arm as well.
"I'm tired," I muttered.
The nurse snorted, "You've been sleeping for almost six years, sweetheart."
"Not enough at all, I always need at least eight."
So, a week before Tommy's gonna ship out, a guy with a gun ends his journey, for the paper in his wallet.
"You've been in cryo for five years, nine months, and 22 days." A man yelled. "You will be hungry. You will be weak. If you feel nausea, please use the sacks..."
I followed the man beside me to the cubbies, trying to ignore the weird feeling of heavy bones in a weightless atmosphere. I held onto the handlebars and pulled open the locker door.
Yeah, Tommy was the scientist. Me, I'm just another dumb grunt going someplace he's gonna regret.
"You're Jake Sully, right?" I asked the man and he glanced at me.
"Yeah, I don't want your sympathy." He responded coldly and I raised my eyebrows.
"I wasn't going to say anything about him. I know what it's like, my brother died a few years back."
He turned to look at me, "Oh. What's your name?"
I smiled, "Y/n L/n, nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you, too." He said, returning the smile.
Up ahead is Pandora. You grew up hearing about it, but I never figured I'd be going there.
"Exo-packs on, let's go." A man of authority said, his assistant repeating him for emphasis. "Remember, people, you lose that mask, you're unconscious in 20 seconds, you're dead in four minutes. Let's nobody be dead today, looks very bad on my report."
I snorted as I put my mask on and took a deep breath, calming the nerves in my body. My leg bounced up and down as thoughts raced through my head.
One life ends, another begins.
"Harnesses off! Get your packs!"
I unbuckled my seatbelt, reached forward to grab my pack, and froze, contemplating whether or not to grab Jake's to help him. I shook my head and just grabbed mine, he's perfectly capable, I don't want him to believe I don't think he is
