Back to school! More work, more assignments, more homework, and less time. That means more stress and problems.

Here are 3 breathing exercises to relax (exercises take 10 mins or less):
1. Equal breathing
Inhale and exhale through the nose for four counts each. (Exercise can also be done with 6 or 8 counts) Repeat until calm.
2. Abdominal Breathing Technique
Place one hand on the chest and the other on the belly, take a deep breath in through the nose, inflating the diaphragm with enough air to create a stretch in the lungs.
3. Progressive relaxation
You breathe through the nose, close your eyes and focus on tensing and relaxing each muscle group.
First start with the feet and toes and move up to knees, thighs, bum, chest, arms, hands, neck, jaw and eyes. Let each muscle group tense for a count of five while you inhale, then breathe out through the mouth on release.

It is important to spend some time de-stressing and relaxing during exam periods and during stressful days. It's allows the mind and body calm down, so it doesn't get overworked.
