The World Curling Congress, a gathering of world curling leaders, is coming to South Korea.
The Korea Curling Federation announced that the 2023 World Curling Congress will be held at the Olympic Parktel in Songpa-gu, Seoul, for four days starting Sept. 12.
The Congress, the most prestigious meeting of the World Curling Federation (WCF), will elect the president and officers of the WCF, elect continental presidents, select the host of the World Championships, revise curling policies and regulations, and schedule Olympic qualification events.
This is the first time the World Curling Congress has been held in an Asian country.
More than 180 leaders from across the world of curling are expected to attend, including World Curling's executive board and federation presidents from more than 70 countries. It is the largest gathering ever.
At the farewell dinner on the final day, Kim Jang-sil, president of the Korea Tourism Organization, Cho Hyun-jae, chairman of the Korea Sports Promotion Organization, and Kang Tae-sun, president of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, will promote Korea's progress as a leading sports nation.
In addition, sports diplomacy is expected to be actively conducted, such as requesting the active cooperation of the world curling community to successfully host the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games.
