Steve's POV

Natasha and I stand on a front doorstep, waiting for the door to open.

My thoughts are filled with Zola's words and information.

HYDRA have infiltrated SHIELD from the very start. They killed Howard and Fury, and they almost killed Zoey, if not succeeded

We stand for a few minutes, before the door opens, revealing Sam in his running clothes.

"Hey, man." He nods to me.

"I'm sorry about this." I tell him earnestly, "We need a place to lay low."

"Everyone we know is trying to kill us." Natasha mutters, glancing at him from under her hood.

Sam hesitates, I can see it in his eyes as he weighs up his options.

"Not everyone." He nods, moving aside to let us in, closing the door behind us.

Later we are cleaning ourselves up are in a spare room, wiping the dirt off our faces, when I notice Natasha seems distracted.

"You okay?" I ask her.

"What's going on?" I ask and she sighs.

"When I first joined SHIELD, I thought it was going straight. But I guess I just traded in the KGB for HYDRA." She tells me, looking out the window. "I thought I knew whose lies I was telling, but I guess I can't tell the difference anymore."

"There's a chance you might be in the wrong business." I joke, and she smiles faintly.

"I owe you." She says seriously.

"It's okay."

"If it was the other way around, and it was down to me to save your life, and you be honest with me, would you trust me to do it?" She asks.

"I would." I nod, "And I'm always honest."

"Well, you seem pretty chipper for someone who just found out they died for nothing." Natasha points out.

"Well, I guess I just like to know who I'm fighting." I shrug, but my thoughts are filled, my mood quite darkened.

Sam suddenly appears in the doorway, looking at us both.

"I made breakfast." He hesitates, "If you guys eat that sort of thing."

We nod, joining him in the kitchen, where the two of us take a seat at his island bench and he stands on the other side.

"So, the question is, who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike?" Natasha begins the conversation we all want to have.

"Pierce." I say immediately.

"Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world." She points out.

"But he's not working alone." I say, "Zola's algorithm was on the Lemurian Star."

"So was Jasper Sitwell." She adds.

"So, the real question is: how do the two most wanted people in Washington kidnap a SHIELD officer in broad daylight?" I sigh, running a hand through my hair.

"The answer is, you don't." Sam pipes up, dropping a file in front of me.

I narrow my eyes, picking up the papers and reading the stamp on it.

"What's this?" I ask.

"Call it a resume." He says as I open the file to reveal files, papers and photographs.
