The young woman spat out blood as yet another arrow struck her arm. She threw her horse back into the saddle at full speed, not wanting to lose her life. She took it in her stride and endured the pain that went right through her, as well as the numerous wounds dotting her body, with blood flowing profusely from her wounds.

But as time went on, she felt her vision darken and blur. She wouldn't last much longer, so close to the border. The last of her strength left her and she collapsed, finally falling from her horse, which continued its frantic race without its rider. Lying in the snow, the world seemed further and further away as her pursuers closed in on her. Her eyes closed in spite of herself, unable to fight the sleep that was invading her, plunging her into an abysmal lethargy for good.

On the other side

The panic was visible in the army, with soldiers running in all directions.

"Stay calm soldiers, we have to hold our positions!!", the commander shouted, trying to keep the situation under control as much as possible.

However, his orders were not heard over the general cacophony and the complaints of the men.

Out of spite, he turned to one of his men and ordered:

"Take this message to the capital as a matter of urgency to General Tolis and His Majesty the Emperor. The demons are at our borders, ready to invade our territory. Give him this scroll and emphazise the urgency of the situation. We'll hold out as long as we can".

The messenger nodded in agreement. He hastily took the sealed parchment, then hurried to a horse before leaving the besieged stronghold in the direction of the capital.

To the capital

Soliès yawned, tightening his arms around his sleeping baby at the same time, trying as best he could to follow the conversation between his husband and the emperor about the rites to be performed for his little one. He blinked several times, trying to keep himself from falling into a heavy sleep despite himself. The door to the study suddenly opened, drawing the attention of everyone in the room. The empress stepped forward with a servant and explained, his face pale:

"Dear husband, a messenger from the country's borders has arrived at full speed and requests your presence, insisting on the urgency of the situation. He has a message for you immediately. I thought you should call a meeting of the ministers to hear it".

The Emperor frowned at his Empress's complexion before nodding.

"Very well, let's go to Court. Orias, come with me too".

And with that, he rose and left the room at full speed, followed by the Empress. The second prince approached his husband and helped him to his feet, telling him to follow silently.

"What's going on?? ( ゚Д゚)"

The person who had asked that question had crept up behind Soliès, his long white hair swaying with his movements.

"A message of the utmost importance," the Cynerian whispered in reply, readjusting his grip on the baby in his arms.

"Oh, I see (;'・Д・)"

A worried, thoughtful look took its place on her face.

As Orias continued his advance, Soliès slipped to the side, behind the rows of ministers, all equally perplexed by the last-minute order, and sat down in a chair to the right of the Empress.

He was trying as best he could to control the trembling of his hands, and the pallor of his face spoke volumes about the importance of the information.

The messenger, still in his armour, was still gasping for breath.
