GETTING OLDER
The summer sun shone into the kitchen as I entered with my arms covered in shopping bags. Lucas was babbling from his baby carrier, busying himself with the chain of my choker. I smiled as I looked down at him and dropped the bags on the counter before pulling out my cell phone. I frowned at the time; it was noon. I only had a few hours left before London came back from Brendan's place.
Sighing I placed the baby in the high chair placed next to the island and turned on the radio before quickly unpacking the bags. I bobbed my head to any random song that played, occasionally glancing at Lucas who was wiggling to the music with a big smile on his face, his dark blue eyes, which were so much like his father's, lit up every time a new set played. I still couldn't fathom that he was 7 months old bordering the 8 month marker. He's come a long way from the cold newborn I found on the front porch.
It's been a few weeks since I cracked my skull. The bandage was removed, leaving me with a small patch of newly grown hair. It was easy to hide but to be safe, I usually tie my hair up in a ponytail or bun. Dad and Danny eventually found out about the incident and they were more than just a little upset about it. My sister flew back here for a week with her kids, just to make sure I was alright and Dad picked up the habit of passing through every few days to check on me.
Speaking of my sister's kids, she had triplets, two boys, and a beautiful little girl who the doctors missed. She named the boys Dean and Dane and her daughter, Diana. They all looked a lot like my sister but while Dean had his father's eyes, Dane took his mother' and Diana's were chimera. The doctors told her that it was a once-in-a-trillion chance that their genetics were so evenly distributed.
A loud wail brought me back to reality. I immediately went to Lucas and picked him up . He immediately wrapped his arms around my neck tightly and calmed down. I sighed, rubbing his back gently as I went back to what I was doing. The counter was littered with snacks, bags of bread, and cooked meat.
"How on earth am I gonna get all this ready before your father comes home, Lucas?" I mumbled to the infant.
He leaned away from my neck, holding himself up on his arms as he looked up at me with his mouth hung open. He blinked and then his mouth widened into a gummy smile.
I scoffed with a small smile and kissed his chubby cheek causing a high-pitched giggle to bubble out of him. I laughed happily and ruffled his hair.
"I think I'm gonna call your other aunties," I told him, "We need to make sure your daddy has an awesome birthday."

"And, done!" Jackie cheered as she put up the last balloon.
"Finally," Taylor giggled, "And just in time too. Hey Mel, is everyone on their way?"
I gave her a sharp nod, "They're leaving the hotel as we speak."
"Nice, go get dressed. We'll look after Lucas for a bit."
My lips curled into a smile as my best friend winked at me. They came over less than 15 minutes after I called and helped me finish the decor while I focused on cooking.
Afterwards, I dressed Lucas into a pair of jeans and a blue dress shirt and set the table, making sure the cake was positioned right. Now that everything was pit together, the three of us still needed to get ready for the party.
