04 : Only I Can Know

They shrug. "You never know. I mean, you were dating Tsukasa and then ripped his arm off! Of course I'm gonna be aware." They whine.

"I suppose that's understandable." I mutter, which then was followed by a long silence. It was awkward. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to say. We just stood there for a few minutes until Mizuki said something I didn't expect. Something that made my heart drop unexpectedly.

"You also abandoned me when I was younger.."

I freeze.

Huh?

"Eh? What do you mean?" I tilt my head.

Mizuki frowns. "Aha.. I guess my appearance did change quite a bit. Uhm.. We were friends when I was 13.. I'd assume you were 14. I didn't go by Mizuki either."

I hesitate, trying to think of who they were talking about.

Then it hit me.

Akiyama is their last name.

How didn't I see it before..?

"Y-you're Am–" They cut me off.

"Don't say that name."

I blink a few times, quickly realizing why. "Oh.. My apologizes, Mizuki." I sigh. I didn't even think that they'd be the same person.

"It's.. fine. You probably didn't even realize I was transgender. If.. you even know what that is." They murmur.

I nod. I did know what it was. "I do know what it is. I just don't know how I didn't see that it was you sooner.." I put my head down. I wasn't even sure what I was supposed to say. "Have you gone this entire time knowing it was me..? and just didn't say anything?" I ask.

"I hoped you recognized me. I really did." They mumble. "But you never did."

I walk over to them, pulling them into a hug. "You know.. The only reason I had to abandon you was because I knew that if Kaito-san or the King found out we were in contact, we'd both either be executed or just blocked from contact."

"I.. I didn't know that was the reason." Mizuki says, placing their head on my should, returning the hug.

I chuckle softly. "It doesn't matter now. I'm just glad you didn't die or anything. Being a transgender knight must've been difficult to deal with."

"I wasn't the only trans knight, you know." They mumble, looking at me.

I was curious to know who they could've been talking about. "Oh? Who else was trans?" I question, getting out of the hug.

They went quiet. "That's.. That's not something I should say. If he wants to tell you himself, he can." They exclaim, backing away.

"I see.. Well, if he does feel ready, I'm sure I'll be supportive of it." I grin.

Mizuki gasps, looking up at a nearby clock. "Shit! I'm late for training! I'll– uh– talk to you later! Bye!" They stammar, running off.

I snicker. "Okay! Bye!"

If they couldn't say.. is it somebody I know?

Tsukasa's POV

Why would Mizuki say that?!

I hold my breath, looking over at Rui, hiding behind a wall. I didn't have somewhere to go. I lied. Mizuki wanted me to help them tell Rui somehow about their past friendship, so I lied about having somewhere to be..

And Mizuki straight up told Rui someone who was a knight or something of the sort was also transgender..

Even if he said he'd be supportive..

What if that doesn't include me? What if he hates me after finding out? Hell, he'd probably be disgusted in me afterwards!

Tsukasa, don't overthink this. Rui loves you. Even if you didn't see eachother for 4 or 5 years.. he still loves you. He wouldn't betray you like that if he loves you. He's changed. He's not some idiot. Well...

How can I be completely sure?
