Chapter Nine : I love you

It's as if the world stopped for Izuku Midoriya when he heard those words. I'm not too late am I? He instantly thinks when he hears the news. There's no way... She would never...

Izuku can't help but tear up when he thinks of a life where his best friend is married to the bane of his existence. The mere thought of Y/n loving the damn guy makes Izuku want to cry out.

He wipes his nose with the back of his flannel sleeve and tries to look at Y/n, but he can't find it in himself to do so without crying so he keeps his eyes on the ground. Or anywhere but her.

"Do you plan on marrying him?" Izuku asks, his voice low and husky. He was peacefully asleep before Katsuki barged into Y/n's house.

Y/n releases a shaky breath and starts to avert her eyes. She rubs her hands on the front of her skirt then intwines her fingers, hoping to put a stop to all of the fidgeting. "I... I don't know." She says.

Izuku tenses.

"I mean, I'm not getting any younger you know?" She says as an attempt to defend her thoughts, "Most girls my age are already pregnant... The only reason why I'm not is because my mother hasn't liked any of the men that have asked for my hand. I don't want to be single for the rest of my life, Izuku. I'd like to experience love just like my parents did, and if I have to experience it with Katsuki then... Then I will."

Izuku's tears start to stream down his cheeks. He didn't know it would be that easy for someone to take Y/n away from him.

"Maybe if there were someone else I..." She trails off with a low sigh, "I don't know what I'm saying..."

Izuku finally looks at Y/n, his eyes wide. That's it! "Someone else?" He questions, tilting his head so that he could see her eyes.

She simply shrugs. "I won't let you marry him, N/n. Not now, not ever. I've been too much of a coward these last few years to tell you how I feel, and I'm upset with myself for not doing it sooner. I..." He sighs, shaking out his hands, "I love you, N/n. I've loved 'ya ever since we first met. Maybe if I had told you sooner, we might've been married... We coulda' had kids by now, but I don't wanna spend any time thinking about what coulda' been when I can think about what could be."

Now it's Y/n's turn to cry. She sniffles to stop her nose from running and reaches up to dab at her eyes.

"Please don't accept Kacchan's proposal, N/n. He's an asshole, you know that. And you deserve better. Better than he could ever be. Give me the chance to love 'ya properly and I swear on my mama—God rest her soul—I'll never mistreat you. I'll love you with everything I've got. I'll provide for you and Ill care for you. I'll be there for you until the day I die."

"I... I don't know what to say." Y/n mutters. She's honestly at a loss for words.

Izuku finally enters the kitchen and slowly comes to stand in front of Y/n. He rests his big hands on her shoulders and squeezes, fisting the material of her white blouse. "You don't have to say anything right now, N/n. Take your time and think about it. It's not like I'm going anywhere." He chuckles, earning a small giggle from the school teacher. "Now go take a bath. I'll take care of supper." He sighs, pushing her towards the door.

"Are you sure...? What about your leg?"

Izuku playfully rolls his eyes with a light scoff, "I'll be fine, don't worry about it. Now off you get!"

Y/n reluctantly turns on her heel and exits the kitchen, but she keeps her eyes on Izuku the whole time until she's up the stairs. Izuku waits a few moments to hear the sound of water running. It's not long before he hears that sound and when he finally does, his entire body relaxes. It's like a huge weight is lifted off of his shoulders.

He finally confessed and he couldn't be happier. However, now that just means he has to worry about Katsuki. Hopefully, fingers crossed, things work out in Izuku's favor.
