Chapter Five : Darlin'

The following morning, Izuku wakes up to the smell of freshly cooked eggs and bacon. It's a pleasant smell, one he welcomes with open arms considering the last thing he's smelt for the last two years has been nothing but blood and shit. Izuku takes his time getting out of bed. He tells himself that there's no rush and the food will still be there when he gets there, so he takes as much time as necessary.

Izuku hobbles out of his room a few minutes later, completely dressed and ready to tackle the day ahead of him.

"Good morning, Izu." Y/n welcomes her best friend with a wide grin, "How'd you sleep?"

Izuku's cheeks flush as he thinks about the dreams he had last night. For the first time in forever, he slept like a baby and he actually dreamed. "I slept like a baby. Thank you for letting me stay here." He breathes out, lowering himself into a seat at the dining table.

"Oh it's no problem. I'm glad you're back home. Would you like some breakfast?" She says with her back turned, too busy plating food to notice the lovesick look in Izuku's eyes.

"Of course, yes. Yes please!"

Y/n turns around with a full plate of eggs and bacon. She sets it down in front of Izuku then turns back around to grab a cup from the cabinet above the sink. "Would you like anything to drink?"

"Could I have some orange juice?"

Y/n nods. She pulls a tall glass bottle full of orange juice and pours a little bit into Izuku's glass. She sets the full glass down by his plate with a smile.

"I have to be at the school in a bit and I should be there until around three. Though, that could always change. If you'd like, there's some left over soup in the cellar downstairs and I made some blueberry pie." She explains, nodding towards the fresh pie on the counter. "If you want to keep yourself busy today, you could always take care of the garden for me and even fix up the chicken coop! The door's about to fall off... Uhm, I'm sure there's other stuff you could do as well."

Izuku looks up at Y/n with stars in his eyes. "You're amazing, N/n. You know that?"

Y/n shakes her head, "I'm really not... But thank you anyways. Anyways, I have to go get ready. Do you need anything else?"

"No... No I should be okay. Thank you again, Y/n. For everything." He whispers.

Y/n's smile only grows. She slowly crosses the distances between her and Izuku and when she gets to his side, she leans down to hug him. "It's really nothing Izuku. I'm just glad you're safe." She mutters, rubbing his back. With a sigh, she squeezes him. "Just promise you won't ever leave like that again. Please..."

"I..." Izuku pauses. There's no way he could make a promise like that and they both know it, but for the sake of their sanity, Izuku agrees. "I promise I won't ever leave you like that. You're my best friend, N/n."

His heart squeezes upon saying those words. She's just his best friend, nothing more, nothing less. While he may feel some other way about the girl, there's a very low chance that she feels the same way.

Y/n quickly leans up to kiss his cheek and then she's off, bounding up the stairs to her room so that she can get ready for work. A little less than fifteen minutes later, she's slowly descending down the steps. Izuku looks over his shoulder to see her looking as stunning as ever. He had been doing the dishes before he saw her, so he sets the dirty dishes back down in the sink to turn around completely.

"Now look at you... You look gorgeous." Izuku chuckles, folding his arms over his wide chest. His eyes scan her body, taking in the curves of her waist accentuated by the tight waistband of her skirt. She isn't wearing anything too extravagant, but she's still pretty.
