ESPORTS TERMS
MOBILE LEGENDS: BANG BANG (MLBB or ML)
A 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena showdown.
MOBILE LEGENDS PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE (MPL)
A professional esports league system for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang hosted by Moonton Games in conjunction with various local organizers around the globe.
MOBILE LEGENDS PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE PHILIPPINES (MPL PH)
A professional esports league for the game MLBB in the Philippines. MPL Philippines is the direct route of qualified teams to both the Mobile Legends World Championships and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup.
MOBILE LEGENDS: BANG BANG WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (M WORLD)
The annual professional Mobile Legends: Bang Bang world esports championship tournament for the game wherein teams worldwide would be facing off each other to become the world champion for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. M World is held at the end of the year.
MOBILE LEGENDS: BANG BANG SOUTHEAST ASIA CUP (MSC)
An annual MLBB regional championship for Southeast Asia. MSC is held mid-year.
SPLIT (or SEASON)
There will be 2 splits/seasons every year. Each split will consist of two phases: Regular Season and Playoffs. In this series, the tournament is already in its 11th season or S11.
REGULAR SEASON
There are 8 teams in total for the regular season. Each team will play two Best of 3 (BO3) series with the other seven teams. The ranking of the competition will be determined by points. Winning the BO3 game by 2:0 grants 3 points; Winning the BO3 game by 2:1 grants 2 points; Losing the BO3 game by 1:2 grants 1 point; Losing the BO3 game by 0:2 grants 0 points. The ratio is in Win:Loss format.
PLAYOFFS
The top six teams in the Regular Season point rankings will enter into the Playoffs. Teams that have qualified from the Regular Season will compete against each other in a fixed order for the championship title. The grand finalists shall represent the Philippines in the upcoming MSC (after the first season of the year) and M WORLD (after the second season of the year).
BEST OF (N)
A head-to-head competition between two teams in which one team must win a certain number of games to win the series. In a Best of 3 (BO3) match, whoever is first to win 2 games will win the match. In a Best of 5 (BO5) match, the team to win 3 games will win the match. In a Best of 7 (BO7) match, the team to win 4 games will win the match.
DRAFT PICK (or BAN AND PICK PHASE)
The main purpose of Draft Pick is to diversify the hero pool of a player and not rely only on a singular or few heroes they specialize in, instead, it forces the player to adjust and strategize amongst their teammates to win. It is where they decide whom heroes to ban or to pick in the game.
BOOTCAMP
A training camp for players.
SCRIMMAGE (SCRIM)
A test match between two e-sports teams.
SHOT CALLING
Shot calling is done to make the game competitive and discipline each attack where it is well-planned and strategized. The person who is more experienced and not only excellent at strategizing but someone who has a broad spectrum of using MLBB heroes usually gets to do the shot calling. In my series, it's Alessei who's doing the shot calls. He's also the captain of the team.
