Chapter Twenty Two: A Walk to Remember
"When Mia was a little girl, she would always tear a whole sheet of paper from her notebook and shove it in her mouth." Mia's face turns pink from her mother's statement. "She ate three sheets a day. It became out of hand one day, so I had to send her to the doctor. The doctor wasn't that surprised. He said that most children like to shove things in their mouth now, but Mia was fourteen then. What kind of fourteen year old teenager would shove three sheets of paper in their mouth?" Mrs.Manheymen lets out a choked laugh. We all follow her actions, except Blake.
Mia pouts like a child, "Mom! Stop embarrassing me!"
"Oh! That's what I said to you when my friends saw you chewing paper!" Mrs.Manheymen adds. Her laugh is vibrant and full of joy.
Blake grunts in displeasure, "I don't understand, what's so funny?" His face is still mutual, but his fingers decide to play with the tips of my hair. "You're making fun of your daughter."
Mrs.Manheymen pouts at Blake's statement, "You're a kill joy." Everybody nods in agreement. Well I have to admit, he hasn't uttered any sort of laugh or snort. "I didn't raise you to be a buzzkill sweetheart."
He ignores her comment and looks at me, "Love, will you take a walk with me at the garden?" He asks. I hear a squeal coming from Mia and her mother.
Without waiting for my answer, Blake sweeps me off of my feet and carries me outside. I wrap my arms around his neck to stabilize my position. He carried me as if I weighed nothing.
"You weigh like a seventeen-year-old teenager." I slap his chest at his comment. "You amuse me love, so don't get physical when I compliment you. Most girls love it when they're complimented as skinny."
I'm not even skinny! I have fat all over my body! "No. You're wrong. Most women like it when men compliment their accomplishments, rather than men brag about their accomplishments." I reply with an easy tone.
It has been two hours since our meeting with Vanessa. Everyone seems okay with everything after her departure. Of course everyone is okay, Blake is the Alpha King and has powers that can destroy whoever he wants or desires.
I'm still astonished by the fact that he's the Alpha King, and I'm mated to him. I definitely did not see this coming. I thought I would have the type of man my mother wanted for me.
"What are you thinking about?" He questions me. A smile appears on his lips, and he leans in and kisses my nose.
I sigh in content, "I'm just thinking about everything. My expectations took a quick swerve because you appeared in my life." I admittedly answer. It's different now.
Blake places me down, "Stay close." He whispers close to my ear. He takes my hand and leads me to the amazing garden. "When I say garden, I meant the woods." He explains. That explains a lot. There are a lot of trees and flowers surrounding the area.
The brick platform leads us to a path. I don't know where it's going but it looks like a never-ending path.
"We're going to the meadow." He tells me. He quickens his pace and drags me with him.
A few moments later, Blake then slows down, "We're almost there so I'm going to close your eyes because it's going to be a big surprise for you."
"It's just a mea—wow! This place is amazing!" I'm so surprised by this scenery. I approach the dozens of flowers in the middle of the meadow and pick up one flower. It's red and its petals are in ruffles.
"It's beautiful like you." Blake presses his body at the back of mine. He snakes his arms around my waist, hugging me from behind. "But you're a lot more worth than a tiny piece of flower."
"Stop...you're making me blush." I admit. I like this side of him. It's sweet and tingly.
Blake lets go of me, for a quick minute to settle his suit jacket on the grass. "I wouldn't want my queen to get dirty."
Smiling, "Are you sure you're the real Blake? You sound like the fake Blake to me." I say in a teasing voice. I'm quite shocked to hear him say these things to me. He's like Sheldon Cooper.
We both sit on his suit jacket. It's quite silent but bearable.
I lay my head on his broad shoulder, "Tell me something about you Blake. I want to know you better." I'm really anxious about him. He intrigues me.
A small smile appears on his face, "I had a dream when I was eighteen. I was in this place, standing right in front of my parents." His smile falters a little bit. "Everything felt real."
I slump at his uncompleted sentence. "That's it?" I ask with a subtle voice. I won't force him that much but a little push won't hurt.
I know that I shouldn't even force him into anything. We just started hours ago. I don't want to ruin what we have right now. I don't want bad things to happen. I want to earn his trust.
"That's it." He declares. "We didn't say anything to each other. We just enjoyed the moment. Maybe, that's the reason why I still loathe them. I wanted to hear their voices." He admits.
I rub his shoulder, "They're watching over you Blake. I'm pretty sure they're proud of you." I reassure.
"Love, I'm not really comfortable when I talk about myself. I asked you to come with me so I can learn some things about you." He looks at me with those pleading eyes.
Smiling at his response, "Fine...since I make you uncomfortable, I'll tell you some things about me. Wait, what do you want to know?"
"I want to know everything." Blake curiously questions.
I stayed silent for a moment. I wanted to say the right thing. I don't want to embarrass myself because of my weirdness.
"I'm weird." You're an idiot Avery. That's the least thing you wanted to say to him, however, you've said it already. "What I actually meant is that I'm a really happy and positive person!" I immediately say.
Blake smiled at my sudden statement. I don't blame him.
"Why do I have to be so weird?" I blurt out. Blake then laughs at me. "Stop laughing at me. You're making me feel even more embarrassed about myself." My face is burning. I can feel my cheeks flare.
So starting from me being weird, Blake and I had engaged ourselves into an open conversation about myself. In some of the words I've said, we had some things in common.
We stayed at the meadow for at least two hours. I enjoyed talking with him. He was great company and made sure to listen to every single word I said. He even shut his phone just to listen to me babble about the idiotic actions I've done.
"Baby doll, I really had a great time with you today. I'm sure this will happen most often in the future. This sure is a walk to remember." Blake winks. "Also, I have a surprise for you tomorrow." He teasingly adds.
