Even Socorro's laptop is opened at the other end of the desk - Trudy was probably going through it so see what she could gather.
"So what brings you here?" Norm asks — and he looks a lot less dressed up than you had gotten used to all over again. Shaggy hair, loose shirt, relaxed shorts.
"Did something happen?"
"There's.. something I gotta know. I'm aware Grace isn't here, and Max is an early bird, so, that leaves you-" it's almost hard to swallow. "-how much do you know about the avatars, personally? You did the training with Tom, and you were able to get into way more of it before coming here."
"I would like to think I know more than enough." He prides himself on. "What do you want to know?"
"Grace said she knew the avatars were made from Navi dna, but not that they were from dead bodies stolen from graves."
"Right." He says. "Go on?"
"So.. if we knew they were made from parent DNA.. is.. there a chance at all.. that Jake and I.. our Avatars-"
It's hard to come out and ask, because this sort of thing was never prompted in your past life - which means too long of a life lived not knowing this.
"—they're related, aren't they?"
Jake's eyes understandably widen as you ask, for even he didn't realize it that deep before.
"I.. oh, man. I don't actually know. I can look it up, though? We're separated by group and test numbers, since they can't promise every fetus mixed with a drivers DNA will go through." He admits - and Trudy hands him his laptop, and switches out as she takes Spider for a change.
"Oh, shit." Jake comments. "You don't really think we're-"
"I sure fucking hope not." Trudy adds in, and Norm shoots her an offended look.
"What?"
"He doesn't like us cussing around the kids. He tried to get after me for doing it in my past life." You stifle a laugh. "I swear."
"He can't hear me well enough to recite it. I'm fine." Trudy insists as she adjusts the way she sits on the bed, and brings him up more securely.
Norm taps away as he pulls up different files. He and Max have one another's credentials should anything happen, and this seemed a good enough use.
You eagerly wait as he tries to sort through and compare enough. Until he finally digs up what he needs specifically.
"Okay." Norm finally speaks after what feels like an insanely long time to wait.
"So, good news - yours aren't out of the same batch. No relation at all."
And you feel like you can finally breathe for the first time in your life, reaching over for Jake as you cling to his arm. "Oh, Thank god. I'm not even religious, more spiritual if anything — but thank Eywa. I don't care, thank Satan. That's... oh, man."
"However, there is something interesting."
"What's that?" Jake asks.
Norm seems to stare widely at his screen, and writes down a few notes on his small notepad just to be sure, but-
"Well, it seems Jake and I share some similar genetic material on the Na'vi side."
"What, really?" Jake enthuses before wheeling over to Norm, taking a peak at what he has on his screen. "Where does it show that?"
Trudy excuses herself as Spider is already making noises, and you don't even hesitate to help her as she digs through the fridge.
"Yknow, I meant to ask - why does he go by Spider?"
"Jake decided to go for locs when he got older, and Spider thought it looked cool since Jake was regarded so highly amongst the clan. He wanted to emulate him, and that's how. He had no true father figure, so he kind of meshed Jake, Max, and Norm together as the closest thing he could get.
I was showing the kids videos of animals back on earth, Lo'ak commented he looked like a Spider - and it caught on.
Been that way ever sense. He hated the name Miles, anyway. He didn't want any relation toward Quaritch to reflect on him.. more than it already did."
