Chap. 32

Caleb's POV

I made my way to Shane's seat after Meghan and I's duet. It was alright, everything we could've hoped for it to be. But I felt no connection with her. In fact, she annoyed the hell out of me.

I reached the seat right as the curtains opened, revealing DeAndre and Trinity.

Their song was perfect. They shared the perfect chemistry for the song, laughing and smiling at each other the entire time. They wouldn't end up dating, not only because Tyler forbade it, but because they seemed like they built a solid friendship out of this.

There were quite a few acts before Tyler and Mackenzie, giving me enough time to run to the restroom and get myself a coke.

I sat down as the curtains opened for the song preceding Tyler's act.

I clapped politely for them once they were done. They weren't well rehearsed, their key and timing off.

When the curtains opened again, it revealed Tyler and Mackenzie. They had blue lighting and back-up dancers in place.

Tyler was in a red and blue plaid shirt with the sleeves pushed up to the elbows, khakis, and his red high-tops. Mackenzie was in a zebra print mini-dress with longer sleeves. It had a few red roses on it, and she was wearing black heels. They looked great together.

Their song was choreographed to perfection. They hit every move and every note. They received a standing ovation at the end, me being the first to jump out of my seat.

Everyone settled in their seats again as the curtains closed. I looked around at the crowd, wondering if anyone here knew about Shane, about everything he'd been through.

Nicole was the only solo act listed in the program, which I'd already heard people talking about in the lobby.

The curtains opened, and the crowd immediately went silent.

Nicole was standing front and center in a tight, black dress and black heels.

Shane was standing off to her right, our left. His eyes were trained on her, or more importantly her ass.

She picked up the microphone off the stand, and Shane began to play, his eyes still trained on her.

"You think you know me, but you don't know me. You think you own me, but you can't control me. You look at me and there's just one thing that you see. So listen to me, listen to me.

You push me back, I push you back, harder, harder. You scream at me, I scream at you, louder, louder. I'm dangerous so I'm warning you, 'cause you're not afraid of me, and I can't convince you. You don't know me.

You think you got me, but you don't get me. You think you want me,but you don't know what you're getting into. There's so much more to me than what you think you see. So listen to me, just listen to me.

You push me back, I push you back, harder, harder. You scream at me, I scream at you, louder, louder. I'm dangerous so I'm warning you, 'cause you're not afraid of me, and I can't convince you. You don't know me.

And the longer that you stay, the ice is melting. And the pain feels okay, it feels okay.

You push me back, I push you back, harder, harder. You scream at me, I scream at you, louder, louder, louder, louder, louder, louder, louder, louder, louder.

You push me back, I push you back, harder, harder. You scream at me, I scream at you, louder, louder. I'm dangerous so I'm warning you, 'cause you're not afraid of me, and I can't convince you. I don't have to, I think you know me."
