"What the hell are you talking about?" I hissed, raising my eyebrows.
I didn't understand what Maverick had meant, nor why he'd think he could get involved.
He threw his hands up in the air as if he'd uncovered the obvious. "Look at them? You've been here for hours, they walk in and out of the operation room, don't even look you guys in the eyes, acting as if they have the right to not tell you what's going on back there."
Asher spoke up this time, folding his arms. "Dude, they told us what's up. We know what's going on, we're now just waiting for the final answer."
Maverick scoffed, as my eyes went back and forth from Asher to Maverick. I was speechless at this point. "You think that's all? You think it takes this long for them to tell you guys if he made it or not?"
"I don't get what other things they could be doing?" I muttered.
"What if they took him off the life support? By accident? Or thought he made it 'cos his heart fluttered but they realized it was just a flutter?"
My heart dropped to my stomach. "They don't have the right to take him off without us giving a firm yes or no though."
Asher looked at me, in question. "What the hell is going on here?"
At this, Rachel stood up, walking over to us. "What are you all angrily whispering about?"
Maverick sighed, rubbing his forehead. When a nurse walked out of the room in a rush, Maverick ran and jumped in front of her, placing his arms outwards as if to say 'stop'. She took a step back, looking at him with sudden fright and obvious anxiety.
"Excuse me. I demand to know what's going on in the emergency room for Evan Shepards."
Asher gasped. "Dude!"
The nurse raised an eyebrow, her attitude changing. "Are you family?" she sneered, which made my blood boil.
"Tell us what's going on," I stepped in, my blood raging at this point. Maverick had put so many uneasy thoughts in my mind that I was now acting out from emotion, which is not the right thing to do.
"I'm family. Now tell us," I demanded, feeling a whole new level of anger flowing through my veins.
If she was going to have an attitude, I was going to have one too.
She licked her dry lips, swallowing. She took a few seconds before speaking up. "We don't have a proper answer," she breathed, blinking repeatedly.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Rachel asked, walking closer to the nurse. She looked very tired and sick, and I knew she needed rest.
All of us, but Maverick of course, seemed to be in the wrong state of mind.
Just as the nurse's lips parted to speak, the main doctor in bright blue scrubs opened the door. I couldn't see any sort of emotion in his face as he peeled off his latex gloves.
"I'm sorry..." he mumbled.
My heart dropped to my stomach for the millionth time that day. I couldn't even let the doctor finish as I felt my knees buckle below me. I was about to hit the ground when I felt firm arms wrap around me, and slide me to a two person couch.
