I Keep Having Dreams About You

I keep having dreams about you.

That other girl is in them too.

But in the end it is always true

That I’m the one who ends up with you.

We’re together and happy, but it’s too much for me.

You should still be with her, you see.

You kiss me goodbye and you say that you love me.

She kisses you too, and I try to leave.

I don’t think you mean it; you don’t understand.

You can only have one, even in dreamland.

I want to be the one that can hold your hand,

But being with you is like playing in sand.

It sticks to my skin and it never comes off.

My heart feels a pang with your every scoff.

You run away like I’m an unwanted cough.

I fall back asleep, with my music now off.

Now we’re together; we’re happy; we’re free.

You forgot that other girl and you chased after me.

I steal your arm in hopes that you’ll be

Happy to stay with me. One, two, three…

I’m awake and my heart turns from bright red to blue.

I’ll cry and move on, but I keep having dreams about you.
