Chapter Thirty Six.
Nick:
I see Charlie's face go pale after I ask that question."Oh my god, please Nick, just forget I even brought it up."
"Charlie, it's --"Charlie pretends to hit an imaginary button.
"Um, what are you doing?" I ask, clearly confused.
'I'm hitting the reset button. This conversation never happened."I laugh.
"There's no reset button."
"Sure there is, right here," he says as he pretends to press it again.I pretend to look around confused.
"Where am I?"
"What?" He asks.
"Who are you?" I ask.He looks at me confused.
"I guess you hit the reset button too many times and now we don't even know each other," I tease.
He playfully pushes me.
"Very funny."
"I know, right?" I say. "Charlie, we should be able to talk about these things."
"You're right, but ugh, once I heard you say it, I wanted to die of embarrassment," he says.
"But you're obviously curious."
"I mean, yeah. Like, I said, I just had my first kiss a couple of months ago and you were in a relationship with Tyler for a long time, and I mean, come on, look at you. Who wouldn't want to... you know?"I lightly chuckle and scratch the back of my head. I sit down next to Charlie on the edge of his bed.
"I am a virgin," I say.
He looks up at me.
"You are?"
"I mean, I've done things just not the thing, you know?"
"Was there a particular reason why you didn't?"I shrug.
"I don't know. It just never felt completely right. I'm not sure if it was because we were a secret or if I just never felt secure enough with him and our relationship, but yeah, it just didn't get that far."
He lightly pushes his shoulder into mine.
"So what exactly have you done?"
Now I feel my face turning red and wishing I could hit that reset button. Just as I'm about to speak, James walks into the room. He looks at the TV which is off, then back at us.
"Wow guys, really fun video game you're playing right now," he says sarcastically.
Charlie and I quickly stop our conversation and nervously laugh.
"Am I interrupting something right now?" James asks as he looks at us with a suspicious smile.
Charlie throws a pillow at him.
"Just us having a nice conversation that you obviously ruined," he teases.
We turn on the TV and all play video games for awhile before James' phone starts to ring.
"Hold on guys, it's Mia."
"How dare Mia call you and not me! I'm her favorite," Charlie teases.
"Obviously not true," he says as he picks up the phone.Charlie looks at me.
"Super betrayed right now," he says with a laugh.
"Oh no, how will you ever recover?" I tease.
"I'm going to go with Dad to pick up dinner and grab Mia on the way. You guys want to come?"Charlie and I briefly look at each other.
"You guys go ahead. We'll stay."
"Figured that would be your answer," James says with a wink.
"Oh my god, shut up and get out of here," I say. "You're ridiculous."
"Listen, I felt the energy when I came in here before, that's all I'm saying," he says as he walks out of the room.
Charlie:
I'm starting to wonder if I even want to know all the things Nick has done. I already feel really insecure and inexperienced and hearing it might make me feel worse about myself."Hey. Did you want to continue that conversation?" Nick asks quietly.
"Eh. I'm not sure I want to know, to be honest."
"Okay, that's fair. And I'm not trying to rush you or anything, but I want you to know that I feel safer with you than I ever did before. And I'm willing to talk about these things and are also open to doing anything you're comfortable with?"I feel my cheeks turn red.
"Anything?"
"Charlie, are you asking me to have sex with you already when all we've done is kiss?"Charlie takes a pillow and lightly hits me in the face.
"Not asking. I was just curious if you ... if you'd ever want to do that with me."
"I want to do everything with you. At the right time of course," Nick says while looking down at the floor.I lift up his chin with my hand and kiss him. I know Nick is my first boyfriend, but I want him to be my first everything, when the time is right. And even though he has done things, I never feel pressured to do anything other than what I initiate. It's like all of a sudden, everything just makes sense. Nick is the person who got me to this place; totally happiness. I just feel complete. Before I can even realize what is happening, both of our shirts are off and we haven't missed a beat. I thought I'd be nervous in this moment, but I've never felt more calm. We both lay down on the bed and continue to kiss each other. I start to reach for his belt buckle, and he places his hand on mine.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
"I'm not sure," I say as I kiss him again and begin to unbuckle his belt. All of a sudden, we hear the door swing open. We both quickly sit up as I throw Nick's shirt to him. We're able to get our shirts on as we hear footsteps coming up the stairs.
"Hey guys, food's here! Lets ...." Mia stops her sentence, probably because she can feel the tension in the room.
"Okay, lets go eat!" I say.
"Wait... what was going on her?" She asks with a smirk.
"Nothing!" I quickly respond.
"If you say so. Oh, and Nick?"
"Yeah?" He says.
"Your shirt is on backwards," she whispers as she walks back downstairs.
