That was until now.
I could see it. I could really see it! That talking orange cat... I think he might be what changes at least something in my life!
Maybe lady luck was finally smiling at me!
Maybe, things were going to change for good.
It was an ambitious thought, really. But... I'm really hopeful this time. So, I want to seize the possibility before it slips away from me!
The fact that I've gained this much hope already made my heart warm.
And when I looked down at the heart-throbbingly adorable cat tucked in my arms with its paws nestled close to its face... I couldn't help but smile so big, my cheeks hurt.
I inwardly squealed at the overload of cuteness.
It just seemed so gentle and content, so I took advantage of the opportunity I had to sneak in a small forehead nuzzle without consequences.
And although I was a bit preoccupied to react when Kayden started scolding me, I did understand what he said.
"Sorry, it's just..." I started, my eyes still planted on the cat. "I couldn't just leave him there..."
I was cold.
Freezing, to be more accurate.
It was only January.
I had swaddled the cat in my arms with my jacket, hoping to at least protect it from the harsh frostiness.
I wasn't wearing much underneath aside from my usual pair of jeans and the undershirt I wore beneath my bloodstained sweater.
If I were to estimate how much longer it would take for us to reach my house, I would guess around ten minutes.
That's not too bad. I resolved in my head, deciding not to think any further on the matter.
"What?" grumbled Kayden.
"I couldn't just leave him there all beaten and battered when I knew I could save him." I smiled
Sofly, turning my gaze toward him.
He gawked, opening his mouth a little only to snap it back shut again.
I chuckled.
"What are you laughing about..." He seemed awkward, and I couldn't pinpoint why.
"Mr. Kayden, I know it might be a strange thing to say, but..."
"I'm pretty excited now!" I decided to voice my prior thoughts, beginning with this one.
"Literally what is there to be excited about in this situation." He deadpanned, his eyes falling narrow.
His expression was a sight to behold. He looked so grumpy and cute, I couldn't hold in my laughter.
His eyebrow twitched, the bridge of his nose pinching as he weakly glared at me.
"Today I realized that my powers aren't a problem. And not just that, but I actually did something with my powers that I can be proud of!" I beamed, summarizing my earlier thoughts.
"Jeez, that's nothing to be excited about!" he snapped.
I just had to tease him with an exaggerated "Yippee!" after he said that.
"Oh my gosh. Can you just shut up?!"
I burst into laughter, the weight on my chest now being fully relieved.
It was a happy moment. For me, at least.
Not quite sure about Kayden though.
However, I thought that I maybe, just maybe caught a glimpse of his lips being upturned into a potential smile.
