CHAPTER 10: GRAB AND RUN!

I could charge up my numen whilst keeping a watchful eye.

And once my numen was charged, I would activate my augere.

Pent-up frustration ate me from the inside out, somehow keeping me warm.

That cat was evidence of my illegal experiments. And if anyone took it, I'd be as good as dead.

It's only a matter of time...! I reassured myself, trying to keep calm.

But the festering anxiety inside me whispered in my hearts' ear, words of apprehension.

I bit my thumb too hard, and crimson blood eased out. I could only stare at it.

No... not at the blood.

Beyond, was where I gazed.

I wasn't focusing on anything specific at all.

Intrusive thoughts invaded my mind, and I rasped a shaky breath at the sinking feeling in my chest.

Bloodshed.

That's precisely what will happen to me if I don't get my hands on that wretched experiment!

The festering numen only roared as the desperation inside me swelled.

No matter the cost...

I must get that experiment.

JIWOO'S POV

Kayden was still fuming.

I apologized to him earlier because I didn't realize I offended him.

I'm so horrible. I already offended him earlier when I asked if he had a mental disorder, and now I insulted him...

Guilt nudged at my heart as I glanced at him.

Darn my social skills...

He looked really irritated.

...And now he feels obligated to come with me... I feel like I manipulated him into helping me now...

"Mr. Kayden..." I squeaked.

"Just forget it. Keep going." He grumbled.

I was following Kayden because he said he could 'sense' the feline's presence.

Still didn't quite understand what he meant, but he seemed to know what he was doing, so I trusted him.

Upon further treading, we found a familiar back alley.

I could only tell its familiarity from the short stairway and deserted street, which I had stopped at previously, before engaging in the fight with that poor cat.

Kayden halted.

Not far behind him, I edged closer.

"It's near." He spoke in a hushed voice.

I peered around the corner of an alleyway and immediately took note of the strange feeling nudging at my gut.

"It's just up there, isn't it?" I whispered, squinting to see further. "Yeah."

Without any spoken words, I warily stepped into the little section and made my way across.

"Wait— Jiwoo—" He protested. I waved a hand, gesturing to him to follow along, causing him to grimace.
