Ashton continued to laugh which made me laugh with him. Eventually he stopped and calmed down. “I’m sorry, I was running away from my ex, she’s been trying to get me back. So I ran up the stairs as soon as she stopped watching me, and then I ran into a random room. I didn’t realize you were here.”
“It’s okay.” I said laughing silently. “Why would you want to run away from her though?”
Ashton face became uncomfortable and I regretted asking the question, but he answered before I could protest. “Well she cheated on me for a while when we were still dating, and I recently found out, which also involves why I’m off of the team.”
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t know otherwise I-“
“It’s fine.” Ashton said cutting me off. “I’m over it now it’s nothing.”
I studied his face for a minute because I didn’t fully believe him, but he looked back straight at me not blinking once. “Okay. You can stay here if you want so you can hide from her,” I said smirking, “or you can go back down.”
Ashton still sat on the floor with his back against the door. “Can I stay here? I mean I won’t bother you I’ll just probably listen to the music since you can hear it pretty well up here, even though its muffled.”
I sat up on my bed, making the ice fall off on my stomach and land on my feet as I pulled them under to sit cress-crossed. “Yeah you’re fine; all I was doing was reading.” I said gesturing my hand to the book laid open on my bed.
Ashton stood up and walked over to the bed, sitting at the edge. He took the book in his hands and turned it over to look at the cover. “The Last Song huh?” He asked looking over at me. “I actually read this when I got bored. Nicholas Sparks isn’t such a bad writer. It’s just the romance that doesn’t really appeal to me, but this was a good book.”
My mouth dropped and my eyes widened when he said that he read the book. “I didn’t realize you read books.” I joked.
“I do, just not at school it’s more of a thing that I do in my spare time.”
“Oh I see.”
“You know, Ronnie in the book kind of reminds me of you.” He said looking at the cover.
“How?” I asked, cocking my head to the side.
“Well, Ronnie is determined like you are. Like, Ronnie with the sea turtles, she made sure they were safe just like you made sure that your goal was clear up me and Grayson today. You don’t give up in something you believe in.”
I snorted, “I’m nothing like Ronnie, and if Ronnie was a real person, she probably would be one hundred percent better than me.”
Ashton shook his head, “You can’t judge yourself with a fictional character from a book.”
“Didn’t you just do the same to me?” I pressed.
“No,” he said looking at me, “I compared you two, there’s a major difference.”
“Fair enough.” I said, taking a piece on popcorn from my bowl and popping it in my mouth.
Ashton raised his eyebrows and smirked, “Were you planning to eat all of that?”
I looked down at the bowl full of food, and back to him. “Possibly,” I said with my lips pursed. “but then again, I probably would throw up afterwards. Here have some.”
“Nah that’s okay you eat it yourself little fatty.” He said ruffling my hair.
“Why do guys do that?” I asked annoyed.
