It had already been a few months now since Seiko Kimura had been expelled from Hope's Peak Academy, and her life had only gone downhill ever since then. Now having the title of an expelled Ultimate, she wasn't having any success in an academic career, or employment.
Rumors of guaranteed success in life once graduating at Hope's Peak Academy certainly seemed to be true, but the catch was should you fail to graduate, then your life effectively went south, very fast, and very hard. Not only did she now have nowhere to go, she had lost her friendship with her closest companions, Ruruka Ando and Sonosuke Izayoi, both of whom had besmirched and cut all ties with her after all three of them were expelled, due to an accident that happened at their practical exams.
If anything good had come out of the situation, it was that Hope's Peak didn't leave her with nothing. They had made a return on any academic expenses she may have lost due to her expulsion, and now the former Ultimate Pharmacist had money to burn.
Of course, Seiko was the furthest example of someone who would go out to party on the town, or get wasted, and with her poor health, drinking her sorrows away was hardly an option. No doubt Ruruka and Sonosuke were coping in that way, but for Seiko, she needed a place to relax and wipe her bad feelings from her mind.
Case in point, the Onsen she had decided to visit for the weekend. A moderately large establishment with little patrons at this time of year, making it all the more quiet and relaxing. The service was held in high regard at these sorts of places, and to top it all off, it came with a built-in sauna.
Hot springs and sauna's had always done wonders for Seiko's health, even if only mentally. The warm water cleansed her body of any bad thoughts, and while many would attribute it to the earth's natural power and the gods that be, Seiko didn't really care about any superstition so long as it made her feel better.
What the masked girl didn't realize however, was that this trip was going to be anything but relaxing for her.
After settling down at the Onsen and getting a good night's sleep, Seiko went early the next morning to have a nice long soak in the sauna that she had been oh so excited for. But after checking to see whether or not the sauna was open at the front desk, she ran into her first of many problems.
"Kimura-senpai?" came a voice behind her, "is that you?"
Seiko turned around and felt her stomach sink when she saw who it was. He was wearing different clothes, but his face was very recognizable. A tall, skinny young man with notably wide shoulders, sickly pale skin and light gray-green eyes with thick eyelashes, with hair is shoulder-length and naturally wavy hair of an unnaturally pale pinkish off-white color that fades to white the closer it got to his scalp.
It was Nagito Komaeda. One of Seiko's previous underclassmen at Hope's Peak Academy, known by his title of Ultimate Lucky Student. This man was an infamous troublemaker, and if what Seiko had heard from whispers was to be believed, he may have been the root cause of her expulsion. After all, she had heard he had been punished for the incident as well, but got off lightly with the steering committee due to his Ultimate Talent.
