"No! No cheering! You're not excused! A major mission alert was sent to all of you, but I'm guessing you were all too busy being upset over training to notice it!" He yelled in our faces.
Bree glanced at me and pulled our her phone.
"Fire in three story building on West Maple Street, Mission Creek, California," she read out loud, "oh."
"Hey, at least it's close!" Adam said with a smile.
We all ignored him and jumped into action.
"Now, the fire department will handle the fire, but I need you guys to get everyone out of the building who is stuck in there!" Mr. Davenport ordered.
I nodded to him as Adam, Bree, and I ran out of the lab, determined to save whoever we could.
...
Reagan's POV
I paced around my mom's office in hysterics. I had called virtually everyone in my contacts but today was the day no one chose to pick up. I couldn't leave, or else I would get burnt to a crisp, and my only other option was jumping out of the window, which was three stories above the sidewalk. In other words, I was stuck. I had no choice but to sit on the floor and cry, thinking about what my life could have been if I wasn't about to die. The room continued to get warmer and warmer and filled with smoke. I coughed and choked and it was only a matter of time before the fire burnt through the door separating me and the rest of the office.
I was going to die...I was actually going to die.
Chase's POV
We arrived at the site of the fire, which had already consumed half of the building. I looked up at it in shock as I heard fire trucks start to swarm the area. Adam, Bree, and I quickly hid behind a garbage can, not wanting to be seen. We couldn't risk anyone finding out our secret. Not now. I glanced around at the crowd that had formed at the site as Bree talked strategy and spotted a woman hysterically crying and frantically looking around. She saw me staring and we locked eyes. Oh no. I quickly looked away and crouched lower than I had before, trying to get out of eyes view, but it was too late. She hurried over to us and grabbed me by the the collar of my shirt. Adam and Bree looked at me worriedly. I didn't know what to do.
"Have you guys seen my daughter?" She asked us, still in hysterics.
Surprisingly, I didn't even think she noticed our suits, or cared for that matter. She was obviously too worried to think of anything else.
"Um, no, I'm sorry," I said and removed her hands from me.
"Are you positive? She has to be here! She can't be in there!" The woman cried and I glanced at Bree.
"Um," Bree started, "well, what's her name? Maybe I know her."
"Reagan," the woman replied, "Reagan Smith."
I felt like had been punched in the stomach. All the color drained from my face and Bree looked like she was about to have a breakdown. Adam stayed silent, too stunned to speak.
"We have to go," I said, almost whispering, "now."
We all jumped up and ran to the back entrance, wasting no time. This had quickly became the most important rescue mission of our lives.
Reagan's POV
I was slowly suffocating as the thick smoke continued to fill the office room. To make matters worse, I could see the flames outside moving at a rapid pace. This wasn't good. I sunk to the floor in defeat, but also because I could barely breathe anymore. I was profusely sweating and my vision was blurred by the tears streaming down my face. The last thing I saw before I fainted completely were the orange blurs of fire finally breaking through to the space I was confined in. Then everything went black.
Chase's POV
I ran inside the building faster than any of my siblings. I didn't know what to think. My mind was foggy and I felt like collapsing, but I couldn't. I had to save her. She was going to die if I didn't. Luckily, most of the bottom floors hadn't been attacked by the fire yet, so we were able to reach the third level with no problem after making sure that no one was stuck anywhere. Now it was starting to become difficult. I could barely see anything besides the blazing fire everywhere I looked. Bree was screaming orders at me, but I didn't hear her. All that was on my mind was Reagan and the fact that she was in here somewhere. I just prayed we weren't too late. Bree started running laps around the space to try and put the fire out as I tried to figure out how I was going to get through this. I had no indication of where she was, making it ten times harder to find her. Once Bree had dialed down the flames a bit, Adam and I started to slowly make our way around, checking each and every room for Reagan or anybody else that was trapped. After about five minutes of searching, I reached an office at the very back of the floor. I opened it and there she was. Reagan was lying in the floor, large flames making their way toward her. She was unconscious, which was the first bad sign. I ran to her through the fire, knowing that my suit was fire proof, and knelt down beside her. She didn't look good. I didn't have time to examine her further. I needed to get her out of here as fast as I could. I picked her up and carried her out of the room.
"I found her!" I yelled to my siblings as they finished up their search for people.
"Really?!" Bree yelled and sprinted over to me.
She looked at her best friend with tears in her eyes.
"Is she going to be ok?" Bree asked quietly.
I hesitated.
"I don't know," I said, "but I'm really hoping she will be."
Bree and Adam nodded as we made our way out of the danger zone. I carried Reagan down and out of the building that was slowly burning to the ground, trying my best to not look too worried, but on the inside, I couldn't be more scared. Reagan meant the world to me. I couldn't afford to lose her.
"Please be ok," I whispered, "please."
