«I remember the story of a man from North Sea Island. I forgot his name, but he had a 9 on his chest. He had moved every time "here and there", I even thought I could call him a superhero».
Stephanie listens to her uncle, Milford, the mayor of Lazy Town with undivided attention- To Stephanie, Uncle Milford was a silly, charming old man who always looked out for the common good of all, plus, to her, he has a natural leadership instinct; she believes that's why he had been elected.
-That's amazing, uncle, but I have a doubt.
-Tell me, dear.
- Is he dead?.- Milford drowned with his spit, he wasn't expecting that question, so he just evaded it by saying "sweet dreams, my little girl".
Stephanie moved to her uncle's house a week ago, as a result of a legal battle. Mr. and Mrs. Alatriste (Stephanie's mom and dad) are an unattached couple. Verónica Meanswell was only twenty years old when she became pregnant, she was an art student and Hector Alatriste her professor, their relationship was casual, however, when she gets pregnant, her father forced them to get married, Stephanie's granddad was a powerful man, with a lot of influence, so if he wanted disappear Hector, He would do it with a finger snap. So he didn't have another option: either marry her or let his life be ruined. So, they did it. Was it the right way? I don't think so. From there, their lives began to go downhill. Every second, every minute and every day, they were always fighting over anything, no matter how small. This situation didn't change when Stephanie was born, it got worse. Therefore, as a child she had to fend for herself and that made her a helpless child. Milford was worried about the situation at home, as his father, Milford has a lot of influence (not in vain he is mayor of LazyTown) and it was easy to get her custody, mainly with the evidence of their mistreatment to Stephanie.
Clearly, he won and we can say that this could be a happy ending to this nightmare.
Stephanie's reality changed overnight. Since her granddad died, her parents became poorer. Hector spent his pay on casinos and alcohol; Veronica was unable to finish her studies due to her pregnancy. Unfortunately, she developed a deep resentment towards her daughter, she always blamed Stephanie about her misfortunes and she constantly minstread her by hitting and yelling at her.
"If you had never been born, I would be anything I wanted".
These words haunt Stephanie's mind every night and keep her always awake, however, tonight was different, she was thinking about the man in her uncle's story.
-A superhero in this town? Well, I think anything could be possible here - For Stephanie, LazyTown is a really weird town. First of all, there's something I haven't explained. A few years ago, a mysterious virus developed in the town and caused all the citizens of LazyTown to become puppets, including Uncle Milford, unfortunately a large part of the population died, due to the virus and mutations, only a small amount of people. could survive, among them is Mrs. Beesie, Milford's right hand. Beessie, despite her transformation into a puppet, maintains her sensual personality and her habit of looking pretty, also, apart from work, something that kept her close to Milford was her feelings for him. They have history, but this is something I might tell you about in future chapters.
The point is that Stephanie is so curious about this mystery man that she wants to know more about him. What does he look like? What are his powers? How did he get them? And the biggest one: why hasn't he come back to LazyTown yet?
